Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons (which is a ridiculously massive hit) has been out in the wild for a little over a month now. Players are slowly unlocking new things for their islands and making progress on catching every bug and fish. It’s been a very relaxing experience for some while others take it maybe a little too seriously.
Still, certain activities can only happen once per day and the game doesn’t exactly make it clear when a new cycle begins. Conventional wisdom would say that 12:00 am would be the start of a new day, but yet New Horizons keeps trucking along like it’s business as usual. How are you supposed to get more Nook Miles from accessing the terminal if not for a daily reset? When will that bridge or house upgrade be ready?
Thankfully, we’ve figured out the secret behind this mystery. It wasn’t all that well hidden, it just required we stay up for an inordinate amount of time. We may be a bit tired, but that’s just the price one has to pay in the name of research.
If you aren’t keen to do any time skipping, know that Animal Crossing resets its days at 5:00 am. That is insanely early in the morning, though there’s bound to be some people that willingly rise before the sun. With this in mind, you can technically speed the process of house renovations up by asking Toom Nook to upgrade your place at 4:50 am.
If you happen to be awake before a daily reset, the only thing that happens is the screen will fade to black for a bit and Isabelle will give her daily message before everything resets. Materials will be replenished, special visitors will start to appear, and some of your villagers may even begin walking around. As well as that, any Nook Miles+ tasks will be swapped out at that time.
There’s not a whole lot of reason why you would need to know this info, but any specific use cases of wanting to build something and not wait will find this handy. Either that or you’re so addicted to New Horizons that you’re staying up later and weren’t sure what that black screen was about. We won’t judge.
