Animal Crossing: New Horizons has tons of items for players to collect and gather, seasonally or otherwise. Yet one of the most sought-after items this summer will likely be the aptly-named “summer shell.”
First and foremost, the northern and southern hemispheres both get the item at different periods of time. For those in the North hemisphere, summer shells are available June 1 through August 31. Meanwhile, those in the South hemisphere can access and obtain the summer shell from January 1 to March 31.
The method by which summer shells are gathered is straightforward. As would be the case when scanning the beach for creatures of the ocean and other shells, simply just walk along the beach until a summer shell spawns. The summer shell is blue-colored and is rare compared to the other, more common shells.
Upon stumbling across one, simply walk up to it and press “Y.”
As per Twinfinite, summer shells are integral to the crafting of various DIY summery items in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The recipes are gathered via methods that players are likely used to. Shot-down balloons with slingshots and beached bottles both contain DIY recipe cards.
The item is limited, so any players ready and willing to create as many DIY recipes as possible (or sell as many summer shells as possible) should get on the ball starting June 1.
Frankly, collect-a-thons seem to be one of the names of the game for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. From collecting bugs for Flick to plucking weeds for Leif, collecting items isn’t exactly new to players, so summer shell-collecting should be a relative breeze. That is, for those who have the patience, given the item’s rarity.
For the moment, Animal Crossing: New Horizons players have been hard at work creating impressive clothing designs off of various properties, and have been kind enough to share codes with fans of them. There are outfits that come from such properties as Star Wars, Naruto, Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy, Super Mario, Borderlands, and various Marvel franchises.
