While some could say that the hype died down, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is still going strong the longer staying indoors becomes the everyday. With the new Summer update and tons of new fish, bugs, and sea life to obtain there’s so much left to do for all the villagers out there (even the snooty ones) and especially the frequent visitors who pop in and out of the island.

Which, now that it’s come up, makes fans wonder, which one fits which Chinese Zodiac animal best? It only seems appropriate to talk about these Zodiac creatures in comparison to a game all about animals, after all, so let’s take a closer look.

12 RAT: Redd The Art Dealer

First and foremost there’s Redd, the ever-resourceful salesman who stops at nothing to make sure people buy his wares. Redd is crafty, smart, frankly quite greedy, and also surprisingly kind. There’s a lot fans still don’t know about him, but who better to represent the resourceful rat than Redd the rambunctious rascal?

This kitsune/fox has appeared in most of the Animal Crossing games and is always ready to sleaze his way into any and all pockets to find whatever Bells he can.

11 OX: Gulliver The Castaway

Who better to represent the stubborn and reckless Ox than the frequent beach visitor who can’t stop leaning over their own boat? That’s right, Gulliver the Seagull doesn’t represent anything bird-like such as the Rooster but rather the bulky and determined Ox.

Throughout all the Animal Crossing titles, Gulliver has stuck steadfastly to his habit of washing up on the player’s beach, whether its due to his own recklessness or the malfunctioning of his ship/spacecraft.

10 TIGER: Flick The Craftsman

While Flick might not seem like the “aggressive” type that many take the Tiger for, he’s still quite rebellious. Flick likes to rebel against common societal norms, both in his sense of style, and his love for bugs which are lifeforms that most people are grossed out by. Plus, he’d fit in perfectly in a gothic-themed village.

Tigers are known to be confident and competitive for example, traits that Flick may not seem to have. But, upon closer inspection, it takes an insane amount of confidence to put artwork out there and Flick makes sure not to lose to anyone in terms of capturing the realism with his bug and fish sculptures.

9 RABBIT: Leif The Shrub Salesman

The Rabbit is known for two things primarily, being quiet and being kind. And, there could be no visitor that better encapsulates these two personality traits than Leif the Sloth. Leif is a vendor that shows up on the island from time to time to simply sell shrubs and flower seeds to anyone that approaches him.

He’s the only Sloth animal to appear in the series and also one of the most stereotypically kind. Sure, he might be a bit lazy since he’s a sloth and rabbits are more known for their energy, but the Rabbit is also known for elegance, responsibility, and intelligence which are traits that Leif has in spades.

8 DRAGON: K.K Slider The Musician

K.K. Slider is another character who has appeared in every Animal Crossing game to date and for good reason, his music is fantastic! In-universe, K.K. Slider is a celebrity and icon who is larger than life, even more so than Marshall, and has traits that fit very well for those of the Dragon Zodiac.

He’s confident in his skills, enthusiastic about music, and intelligent on many different levels. Dragons are known for being types that reach for the stars and K.K. is already among them.

7 SNAKE: Celeste The Stargazer

There are many different traits that the Zodiac animals are known to exude. But, among all of them, the one that is always applied to the Snake is that they’re known for being introverted.

Celeste isn’t exactly anti-social, but she does only show up on the island to talk about her space obsession and stargaze. Snakes are known for being cosmic, adaptable, mysterious, and intelligent which fits Celeste almost too perfectly.

6 HORSE: Daisy Mae The Turnip Tyrant

There’s a reason those who tend to dedicate themselves to their careers are called “workhorses” and that’s because this animal is known for its dedication to the job. The Horse Zodiac is characteristic of being energetic, independent, dedicated, and diligent which are also all traits that accurately describe Daisy Mae.

She’s always dedicated to her work, energetic enough to show up every single Sunday at 5 a.m, and independent enough to set her own prices and manage her own business.

5 GOAT: Saharah The Carpet Connesoire

The Goat is an animal particularly known for its uniqueness and compassion. And there’s no visitor in Animal Crossing more unique that Saharah. Saharah is a camel that appears on the island the most out of anyone and is always ready to peddle his variety of floor covers, wallpapers, and rugs.

Saharah is a bit of a weirdo, but he’s incredibly gentle and calm as well. Something about talking to him is just so oddly relaxing in a way usually unique to games outside of Animal Crossing. Nothing really describes Saharah accurately, but the Goat Zodiac is the only thing that even comes close.

4 MONKEY: C.J The Fishing Streamer

The Monkey is stereotypically known as one of the more comedic animals out there. People who are of this Zodiac sign are typically known for their sarcasm, sense of humor, and playful nature. They’re also quite the social butterflies.

One obvious social butterfly in ACNH is C.J. The Beaver, the Sea-sports Streamer. C.J. replaced another beaver known as Chip who used to appear as the head of the fishing contests in other AC games. This time around, C.J. takes that role, and he also takes on the role of the Monkey.

3 ROOSTER: Label The Fashion Entrepreneur

Among all the visitors that can pop in on a player’s island in Animal Crossing, Label tends to be one of the fan favorites. She allows the players who spend every day buying new in-game clothes to show them off, and even rewards them with more clothes!

Label is traveling around doing tons of research for her own clothing line and her ultimate goal is to make her designs as popular as possible. Label makes it immediately clear to the player that she’s talented, brave enough to strike out on her own, hardworking, and extremely observant.

2 DOG: Kicks The Manly Merchant

Getting along well with the Monkey’s of the world, the Dog Zodiac is playful as well, while being a bit more down-to-earth and loyal to their friends. Dog’s tend to be fearless, honest, and prudent, they know who their friends are and would never betray them.

Now, Kicks the Skunk doesn’t immediately read as someone who would fit the “Dog” mold, but the more a player talks to him, the more they’ll see how loyal to his customers he is, how honest and diligent he is about his job, and how playful he is in his manner of speaking. Kicks is a fantastic character who has an obsession with footwear just like anyone who has found their shoes chewed up would agree that dogs have as well.

1 BOAR: Wisp The Cowardly

And finally, let’s talk about Wisp. Wisp is one of the rare “nighttime only” visitors in Animal Crossing who never seems ready to be approached. Every single time the player approaches Wisp, he’ll get scared of them thinking that they’re a ghost and split his body into five separate pieces. Once all of his Spirit Pieces are returned, Wisp will gift the player with either something new or something expensive based on their choice, and go on his merry way.

There’s not too much to say about Wisps’ personality, just like there isn’t too much to say about the Pig Zodiac. These types of people are kind, loving, and diligent and are just trying to live their best life which is all Wisp seems to be attempting as well. Though in his case it’s his best “afterlife.”
