An Easter egg hinting that Ant-Man is a part of the Marvel’s Spider-Man universe has been hiding in plain sight ever since the game was released.
Marvel’s Spider-Man will be one of the games the PlayStation 4 is most fondly remembered for. Not only did Insomniac prove that there is very much still a place for games not rooted in battle royale and online multiplayer features, but it gave PS4 players an in-depth game revolving around what might be the most popular character Marvel has ever created.
Marvel’s Spider-Man is so in-depth that, more than 18 months after its initial release, players continue to discover things about the game that have been there the entire time. The intricate details on the soles of Spidey’s feet when wearing certain suits, and the fact that Jewish NPCs are nowhere to be found when playing the game on Saturdays.
The latest discovery might be the most exciting one so far as it potentially links Marvel’s Spider-Man to another Avenger. On the wall of Norman Osborn’s penthouse is an “Achievement in Science” certificate. The certificate was awarded to Osborn by the Pym Institue. Founder of the institute Hank Pym is the creator of the Pym Particle which is what allows Ant-Man to change size at will.
The certificate implies that Marvel’s Spider-Man takes place in a universe where Ant-Man also exists. It makes sense, too, considering that the Avengers Tower is also present in the game. As for which Avengers will actually show up in Spider-Man in the future, that is a topic that is up for a lot of debate right now. Square Enix’s Avengers will be released later this year and might well have tied up a lot of the heroes Insomniac would like to have introduced in the future.
Rumors are currently swirling about a potential sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man. While nothing has been confirmed by Insomniac, it seems likely that some sort of announcement will be made as soon as this summer, with a release date on PlayStation 5 possibly coming at the end of 2021. As for whether Ant-Man will be a part of those festivities, players might have a very long wait on their hands for confirmation of that.
