Part of what helps Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends stand out from other games in the battle royale genre like Epic Games’ Fortnite is its emphasis on unique characters called Legends who each bring different skills to any team’s composition. That’s what makes it particularly sad to see one of the game’s originating characters, Wraith, suffer from a bug that all but negates the abilities she otherwise brings to the table.
A video was posted to the r/apexlegends subreddit by Reddit user Proki- that shows the dedicated Wraith player getting downed at the same time as they enter into the void, a mechanic in Apex Legends allowing Wraith to turn invisible and invulnerable for a limited time. After they are revived by a teammate, Proki is unable to activate Wraith’s powers for the rest of the match — an outcome replicated in both a test environment and during an actual game.
The post has received over 4,500 upvotes and 150 comments as of this writing, with many of those commenters remarking they’ve seen the same thing happen to streamers or during their own matches. However, Respawn Entertainment has yet to remark on the fairly game-breaking bug for Wraith players. Just about everything in Wraith’s base kit revolves around her void walking ability, to the point that she received an exclusive Twitch Prime skin in April themed around the mechanic.
With the game’s fifth season of content, “Fortune’s Favor,” newly underway and adding elements like Charge Towers into Apex Legends, it makes sense that bugs and glitches would begin to unearth themselves as a larger array of players jump in to play. Though the chances of Wraith dying as she activates her ability are situational, Proki- proves that it is a possibility.
Some characters like Wraith have been unintentionally impacted by bugs, but others may be seeing less play in Season 5 because of balance changes. Respawn Entertainment nerfed the Legend Pathfinder by more than doubling the cooldown on his signature grappling hook ability, a change not many players agreed with.
As far as working out bugs and glitches goes, hopefully Respawn can take care of issues affecting characters like Wraith soon. The developers have opened up a new studio in Vancouver dedicated to working on Apex Legends, so with more hands working on the game there should more opportunities to get it fixed up.
Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
