Apex Legends has a hacker problem. It’s gotten worse over the past several months as high-profile cases make their way to social media with videos of high-ranked players getting DDoSed out of matches. Suspiciously, they always seem to suffer an attack just as they’re about to knock a particular player out of the match.

Coincidence? Hardly. Respawn is aware of the issue and has already taken steps against some players, with several getting smacked by the ban hammer earlier in the spring and another possibly facing legal action.

That said, the DDoS problem persists in ranked play, with players calling for more drastic action. And it seems like those drastic actions might be just around the corner.

Respawn security specialist Conor “Hideouts” Ford took to Twitter earlier this week to notify players of Respawn’s latest step against hackers. “The DDoS situation is being addressed as we speak by our very own @ricklesauceur,” wrote Ford. “It isn’t the easiest fix in the world but huge steps are being made to take care of this.”

Ford said that 31 cheaters have also been “shadow banned,” which likely means they’re being matched against other suspected cheaters. “We care and are just as frustrated as the players,” Ford added.

It remains to be seen whether this software fix will prevent future DDoS attacks. In the meantime, Titanfall is still under constant assault from a mysterious figure with an apparent vendetta against both Titanfall 1 and 2. For the past several months, Titanfall’s multiplayer servers have been “under siege,” preventing players from even connecting to games.

Some streamers believe that the hacker has somehow been able to gain access to Titanfall’s code to blacklist certain player IDs as the DDoS attacks start even without the streamer broadcasting on Twitch.

Last we heard from Respawn was that the Titanfall situation would “take time.”
