Apex Legends has leaked a new limited-time mode as a part of the Halloween event. Much like last year, the Apex Legends Halloween event will feature themed skins, rewards and a spooky LTM. Last year, the Shadowfall mode was including in the Fight or Fright Halloween event, and this year, the Shadowfall mode returns with a few twists.

The Apex Legends Halloween event is expected to start later this month and will include new challenges, the return of lootbox spiders scares, and a variant of the infected-like game mode Shadowfall. The new Shadow Royale mode tasks players to stay alive until they are able to reach an evac ship. Players who die are turned into Shadows, which are dangerous zombies with the objective of eliminating all remaining players.

This year, Shadows have new moves and perks that make them even more terrifying. Apex Legends dataminer “Biast12” uncovered game files revealing the Shadows’ new actions as well as evidence that prowlers may be including in the Shadow Royale mode. Based on game files, Shadows will be able to wall run, double jump, smash doors and perform a long-range melee attack. Shadows also regenerate health automatically over time and instantly regain health on finishers. The added mobility and health regeneration make Shadows able to cover long distances and endure more gunfire from survivors.

Shadows also have abilities that will make squad teamwork important in Shadow Royale. This year, the squad is eliminated when their last living teammate is killed, however, Shadows have the ability to revive downed teammates. Game files also indicate that Prowlers may replace eliminated Shadows based on a description reading, “Shadow pet granted to fill out your roster.” Prowlers are creatures from the Titanfall series and previously featured as an enemy in Bloodhound’s Trial.

The Prowlers also have game files with a placeholder “PET_NAME” with funny names such as Scruffy, Cuddles, and Lickeypants. This indicates that the Prowlers will be the Shadow pets and will work as a teammate for either Shadows or survivors. Apex Legends has not officially announced the LTM, so these features may be subject to change.

The Apex Legends Halloween event is expected to start later this month, so fans will have to wait to try the Shadow Royale mode and unlock Halloween skins and rewards. Until then, players can participate in the Aftermarket Collection event that starts today, which includes Flashpoint LTM, exclusive cosmetics, and the cross-play beta for PS4, PC, and Xbox One players.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version currently in development.
