Loba’s mom may have been a bit of a sociopath, according to the letter she wrote her unborn daughter.

With new characters, Respawn has taken to fleshing out their backstories with a bit of extra lore on the Apex Legends website. Loba is no exception, although her backstory is told from the perspective of her mother as she writes a letter to her unborn child.

And man, Loba’s mom was a bit of a creep.

We don’t know much about Loba’s mother. We only see her briefly in the Season 4 trailer for Revenant where she seems like a typically loving mother that’s willing to defend her daughter even in the face of certain death. We also know she’s married to a big-wig exec at Hammond Robotics and that she lives the good life.

But other than that, we know nothing. We don’t even know her name.

However, thanks to this letter, we do know that she probably had a colorful past. One that might have even influenced her unborn daughter’s future.

The idea behind the letter isn’t so strange as lots of mothers write letters to their unborn children. In this case, Loba’s mother just wants to give her daughter some life advice even before Loba can read. It starts out with some pretty typical stuff: makeup advice, social advice, and choosing a career that you don’t hate. Then things get weird.

“Always look people in the eye when you talk to them,” writes Loba’s mom. “Then you can tell them anything and they’ll always believe you.”

Alright, teaching your daughter how to be a good liar is an interesting choice, but maybe mommy dearest just has her daughter’s health in mind?

But then, Loba’s mom has some very specific things to say about leading a life of crime. “Don’t get into trouble on Gaea. They have policia soo it’s more work than getting in trouble on Solace. Don’t get into trouble with Gaea’s cons either. That place makes them ruthless.”

Perhaps the most interesting thing her mother ever wrote is this line: “No need to break in if you can steal the key.”

Either Loba’s mom was a former criminal herself, or she was a total sociopath. Either or.

Season 5 has arrived in Apex Legends, so there’s sure to be more lore discovered in-game.
