According to Respawn designers Jason McCord and Carlos Pineda, the Mobile Respawn Beacon is Respawn Vancouver’s first major contribution to the game.

In an interview with GameIndustry.Biz, Respawn officially revealed their second studio, Respawn Vancouver, this past May. According to Respawn COO Dusty Welch, Respawn Vancouver had actually existed for 8 months prior while the team hired internally. The Vancouver-based developers, led by team Director Steven Ferreira, is working primarily on Apex Legends. Now, thanks to the trailer for the upcoming Lost Treasures Collection limited-time event, we have our first look at something Respawn Vancouver has been working.

Lead Game Designer Carlos Pineda explained on Twitter that he originally prototyped the Mobile Respawn Beacon before handing it off to the Vancouver studio to bring it into the game. Design Director Jason McCord echoed Carlos by congratulating Respawn Vancouver

The Mobile Respawn Beacon is coming to the game during next week’s limited to event, Lost Treasures Collection. The “snipers and shotguns” game mode Armed and Dangerous is making a return, this time as Armed and Dangerous Evolved, because players will all start with evo shields. Additionally, there will be no respawn beacons scattered around the map. Instead, every player will start with a Mobile Respawn Beacon in their inventory.

Mobile Respawn Beacon take up 1 inventory slot and activate just like Lifeline’s Care Package. After activating the beacon in their inventory, players will see an outline of the beacon in front of them which they’ll need to activate again to place in the world. The adorably tiny beacons will then drop from the sky like a Care Package and can be used just like a normal Respawn Beacon.

Mobile Respawn beacons will only be available in Armed and Dangerous Evolved during the length of the Lost Treasures Collections event, but at the conclusion of the event they will be added to the standard pool of lootable items on both King’s Canyon and World’s Edge. We can’t wait to see what Respawn Vancouver has in store for us next.
