While Apex Legends is currently undergoing a limited-time event in the form of The Old Ways event, which runs through April 21, one player has found what could be an overt reference on a map in Apex Legends.

Reddit user HIRUZENandENMA posted a video to the official Apex Legends Reddit page showing a reference to the Titanfall series. The Easter egg can be found on World’s Edge inside the facilities at Dome.

The video can be seen below.

The device in Dome contains a symbol that reads “ARES,” signifying a special division of the same name in EA’s Titanfall franchise. It has a button that can be activated, but HIRUZENandENMA notes that the result of the activation is unclear.

Further, the user states that the button could be a reference to the Singh Labs. Originally a town takeover as part of the Voidwalker event, Singh Labs is located squarely in Kings Canyon.

Regardless, this is a definite Easter egg referencing the Titanfall franchise. The ARES Division, or the Archaeological RESearch Division, is the Research & Development part of the IMC faction in Titanfall and Titanfall 2. The reference is, ultimately, a small one. Further, it makes sense given that Apex Legends and the Titanfall franchise are both multiplayer-focused games developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by EA.

This isn’t the first reference Apex Legends has made to the Titanfall franchise either. Previously, Season 3 of Apex Legends referenced a world record holder in Titanfall 2 involving a speedrun of the Gauntlet.

Many gamers will likely be endeared by this reference, as the Titanfall series has not been heard from in a while. Although the first entry left a little to be desired, Titanfall 2 managed to secure an identity that locked it in as one of the best under-the-radar shooters of the previous decade. Further, the series essentially laid the groundwork for Apex Legends, which arguably ended up exceeding Titanfall in popularity.

Any hope for a crossover event was previously crushed by the developers’ confirmation that Apex Legends won’t get Titans. This was due to the notion that balancing the Titan mechanic would defeat the purpose of it, which is to make players feel significantly more powerful than when on-foot.

As stated previously, Apex Legends’ current The Old Ways event will be taking place until April 21, so check out the Easter egg while it’s still around.
