Loba, the newest character in the Apex Legends repertoire, has a strong reputation for being the most notorious thief in the outlands. While players were already aware that the woman with a wolf-like essence would be able to steal items from the locked vaults on World’s Edge, it wasn’t entirely clear how this would work. But yesterday, once World’s Edge returned as a playable map after a two-week rotation hiatus, players found that it wasn’t that simple.

Yes, the thief can steal high-tier goods from World’s Edge vaults. But something unusual happens when she chooses to do this. Check out the video below, which initially appeared on the YouTube channel Drop Ammo Please.

As viewers can see, if she chooses an item in the vault, her ultimate ability fails to function normally. She’s able to access a single piece of gear before her Black Market staff breaks and renders it unusable.

Further, the vault then blasts sirens, giving away a team’s location. Much like Lifeline’s care package or Gibraltar’s dome shield, this becomes a dead giveaway making the team ripe for an ambush by multiple groups.

The shattered Black Market contrasts what typically happens when Loba uses her ultimate ability. Usually, she can teleport up to two items to her Black Market, as can each of her teammates.

Presumably, the developers felt her ultimate would be overpowered if she were able to instantaneously loot all items from the vaults while outside of them. But rather than getting rid of the vaults entirely, the developers sought to find a way to incorporate her strengths without compromising others’ chances of getting high-tier loot from the vault.

Many players feel Loba is a strong addition to the game’s meta. The vengeful, manipulative character is out to destroy Revenant but appears to be using the Apex Games to suit her short-term needs before she exacts her revenge against the simulacrum who killed her parents. Notably, the season introduced a series of telling voice lines specifically for interactions between Loba and Revenant.

Loba also plays a significant role in the game’s new Quests. In these PvE mini-adventures, she leans on other legends to help her hunt for artifacts to help her reach an as-of-yet unknown end objective.
