A recent tweet from an Apex Legends writer is causing speculation that supposedly deceased would-be Apex Games competitor Jimmy “Forge” McCormick may eventually return to the game. Respawn Entertainment introduced Forge in Season 3 only to quickly off him to make way for Revenant, who emerged as an Apex Games contender soon after.

Who is Forge?

Leading up to the Apex Legends Season 4 launch, Respawn announced Forge would be the game’s forthcoming legend and went as far as to release a series of lore pieces to support this announcement. The beefy Hammond Robotics-supported champion was confident to the point of arrogance, relying on the strength of his robotic arm to guide his success in the Apex Games.

His tough-guy persona indicated he would be a macho and unlikeable character. Not only did he take shots at the friendliest robot on the Frontier, Pathfinder, but he also insulted Gibraltar and claimed he and Bangalore “had a thing,” which she refuted.

So, players weren’t all too upset when a mysterious being, later revealed as Revenant, appeared to have slaughtered Forge in an incredibly gory fashion. McCormick was speaking with a reporter on a program titled “Up Close and Personal with Lisa Stone” when Revenant stealthily attacked him.

A follow-up lore piece in the form of a media statement claimed: “McCormick was pronounced dead at the scene.” Notably, the video doesn’t show the actual assault in progress, nor does it show a dead body, though it’s possible this is due to restricted content limitations on YouTube or passed down from Respawn publisher Electronic Arts.

Later, Respawn claimed Forge was a character made up only to deflect data miners, who had already predicted Revenant would be the forthcoming season’s new legend. Jason McCord, a Respawn design director, went as far as to say “Forge is super dead.”

Forge May Once Again Emerge in Apex Legends

In the hearts of many players, Forge remains gone but not forgotten. And so, with that context, it’s only logical that an intriguing series of tweets from a Respawn writer could incite speculation that fans haven’t seen the last of Forge.

“Our team does our best to rotate which characters get the trailers/animated shorts/lore so no one Legend monopolizes the spotlight. You can safely assume NO Legend’s story is ‘over’ at the moment," Respawn’s Tom Casiello shared.

In a series of follow-up tweets, he then mentioned Forge as an exception before seemingly backtracking on it.

While Respawn plans its Apex Legends seasons well in advance, it’s possible that at the time, the team was unsure what the role the presumed throwaway character might play in the future. Regardless, it’s no surprise this group would want to keep fans on edge as to whether they might someday see this character again.

Forge May Return… But He May Not Be A Playable Character (Or Even Human)

Even if he never emerges as a playable character, it’s possible players may find Forge again in some other form. For a short time, players were able to access an in-game Easter egg that was a tribute to the fallen character. There could be future Easter eggs, be they in the game or in the promotional trailers and content that support Apex Legends fandom.

If he does return to the game, he may not be in his human form. Given the futuristic context of the game, he could return as a simulacrum, just like Revenant. In the game’s universe, which stems from the Titanfall series, a simulacrum is a robotic representation of a living or once-alive person that contains a digitized copy of that person’s mind and consciousness.

There are also other ways players may encounter Forge, such as if he were to cross from another dimension leveraging the same technology that scientists used on Wraith. These experiments resulted in her ability to traverse space and time.

Regardless of whether players actually see him again, it’s unlikely Forge’s story is truly complete. As Respawn continues to produce more lore pieces, the team is creating a comprehensive story within the game universe. Perhaps players may ultimately never see Forge again but will later piece together clues to discover how his death made a lasting impact on the Apex Games.
