After a recent three-day player-driven production test, award-winning board game studio Plaid Hat Games and game distribution company Team Covenant have announced the resurrection of Ashes: Rise Of The Phoenixborn. The customizable and expandable card game will soon be getting the brand new Ashes Reborn 1.5 Upgrade Kit and “The Breaker of Fate” new deluxe expansion deck.

In an attempt to see if there were enough people interested in the return of Ashes: Rise Of The Phoenixborn, which was canceled in 2019, Plaid Hat partnered with Team Covenant for a test run of Team Covenant’s Player-Driven Production model. The goal was to see if there were at least 1,000 gamers who were interested in the return of Ashes. In just three days, their question was answered.

The first product in the Ashes Reborn line is the Ashes Reborn 1.5 Upgrade Kit. According to Plaid Hat, they have “gone through every single card that has been released for the game and have assessed and reevaluated each one,” and have “reworded, improved, or rebalanced” a great many of the cards.

These upgraded cards will be added to the incoming core Rise of the Phoenixborn set, and the future expansions as they get printed. The Upgrade Kit will also contain the new 1.5 rules, “more than 350 updated cards from the 23 original products in the Ashes line,” and “enough copies of every revised card to reach the legal deck building limit for that card.”

“The Breaker of Fate” deluxe expansion deck is the second Ashes Reborn product, and is being led by Phoenixborn Jericho Kil from the previous Ashes’ Path of Assassins deck. With this expansion, Jericho has learned a few new tricks, including the skill of time magic. New cards and new dice will also come with the deck, along with “plenty of room to hold a deck, conjurations, and all your dice and counters.”

Ashes is the first game to be offered through the new Team Covenant Player-Driven Production model. Activating your quarterly $29.95 subscription will keep Ashes Reborn in production, and Team Covenant will send you two new Phoenixborn decks every two to three months. As long as the subscriptions stay above Team Covenant’s production threshold, they will be able to keep the quarterly Ashes expansions rolling.
