Just one day from its originally scheduled launch, games publisher Aspyr has indefinitely delayed the re-release of Star Wars Episode 1: Racer on Switch and PS4. Citing mandatory “work from home” requirements as part of the reason, it seems the publisher wasn’t able to get things ready in time for tomorrow. Instead of launching an inferior and broken product, it decided to delay the port last minute.

This will be a bummer to fans burning with nostalgia for the N64 racer, but it is the right call to make. First impressions are hard to change and failing right at the gate would be a bad look for this retro classic. Fans across the globe have been dying to see it on modern platforms, so extra time can only lead to a better final product.

While the indefinite delay sounds harsh, the tweet does stress that the team will have more news as soon as possible. I wouldn’t doubt we’ll see Racer come out before May is over, though obviously stating that and being hit with another delay would sting worse.

Whatever the issue is, hopefully, Aspyr has the time to get it sorted out. Anakin was rushed into becoming a Jedi and he wound up turning into the Dark Lord of the Sith. Let’s not wish the same fate for Racer.
