Heroes are only as good as their villains, and the evildoers in the Assassin’s Creed series have always been The Templars.

This villainous order has taken many forms throughout the years, from actual Templar Knights to politicians to high-ranking religious officials. No matter who the members are, they all want to control the world as they think that’s the only way to bring peace.

Players have spent years not just fighting these villains but making memes about them. This is because it’s somehow really easy to make fun of the supremely cruel and powerful organization. Here is a collection of some of the most humorous memes that fans have created.

10 Abstergo Hacking

During Black Flag, players had free reign to walk around Abstero Entertainment and hack computers. Getting into the system of an incredibly technologically advanced company sounds near impossible. But the Templar-run corporation actually made it very easy because the first hackable computer gives players a simple tutorial on how to do it.

It’s a bizarre thing for any tech company to have, especially one with as many dark secrets as Abstergo. Perhaps it shows how little the Order feared the Assassins of the present day compared to the great ones from the past.

9 Charles Lee

The evilest Templar in Assassin’s Creed III was definitely Charles Lee, as proven when he strangled Connor, who was just a young boy at the time. The man wasn’t always so bad, though.

In the prologue of the game, when players were controlling Haytham, Charles was a mild-mannered guy. In fact, he seemed distinctively less evil than the people around him. But not long after joining the Templars, he realized his true villainous potential.

8 History Classes

School is, of course, important, but students are taught so much that it’s easy for them to forget some of it.

However, nobody who played the original Assassin’s Creed game will ever forget what they learned about the Templar Knights. And as the series is known for being fairly historically accurate, it’s actually a great way to learn. Although, every student needs to make sure to separate the facts from the fiction before spouting to the world that Robert de Sablé was killed by Altair.

7 Real Life Templars

In Assassin’s Creed, the Templar Order is active in almost every period in human history. But what about real life? That red cross that the group is known for can be found at real locations, usually referencing the actual Templar Knights.

However, it could be more than that. Maybe Templars are trying to control the real world, or worse, are actually controlling it. On the other hand, people might just like the cool-looking logo.

6 Shaun Hastings

Desmond might’ve perished in the series highlight that was ACIII, but his support team stuck around a bit longer. In fact, Shaun Hastings served coffee at Abstergo Entertainment. It’s a clever move from the Assassin as one tenet of the group’s Creed is to hide in plain sight. And selling drinks in the lobby of a huge Templar-run company certainly counts as plain sight.

Yet, why does Abstergo let him work there? They should know who the guy is as they have a picture of him with Desmond and the rest of their Assassin group. Following the old adage of ‘keep your enemies close’ is inadvisable when those enemies are Assassins.

5 Templars Can’t Find Assassins

There’s a certain hierarchy in the Templar Order. The people at the top of some of the smartest individuals of their generations. Those at the bottom, however, aren’t the brightest bunch.

Assassins easily outsmart Templar foot soldiers time and again. They can kill countless guards, but as long as they hide on a bench or jump into a haystack, regular Templars will never find them. The insanely powerful people at the top of the Templar Order need to hire better help because it’s embarrassing for the whole organization.

4 Who’re The Real Bad Guys?

Templars and Assassins have always been two sides of the same coin. Both factions want peace but have different methods of achieving it.

The Assassins try to bring peace by murdering certain individuals, plus random guards who get in the way. Templars, on the other hand, aim for peace by controlling everybody. Neither way is truly honorable, but it’s funny that the more bloodthirsty faction is seen as the good guys.

3 Colonial Templar Order

Assassin’s Creed III featured one of the series’ most memorable groups of Templars.

By playing as one of them during the prologue, players truly got to know each member and what they brought to the table. For instance, the likes of Haytham and Charles Lee were the most influential individuals of the group, whereas John Pitcairn and Benjamin Church were glorified underlings. Despite the personal connection players made with each individual, they still took joy in taking them down later in the game.

2 Final Revelations

Most Templars betray their evil cohorts as they die by revealing the Order’s plans in one last attempt at redemption. They likely hope that their final act of goodness means they’re less harshly judged by whatever deity they meet in the afterlife.

Although, do they really think that an all-powerful god is going to look past all the killing and manipulating the evilest Templars have done? Just because they outed their friends at the end?

1 Google = Abstergo

If the Templars were to exist in the real world, they would look to control the biggest companies on earth. One such target would definitely be Google.

Most people interact which something owned by the giant company virtually every day, from checking their Gmail account to opening up a Chrome browser. So Templars could control the population pretty easily by getting their hands on Google. Maybe Bing should look to the Assassin Brotherhood just in case.
