One critical element of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is the ability to weaken a nation in order to create a conquest battle. These battles will allow players to complete quests and defeat other mercenaries to win various awards like XP, gold, weapons, and armor. It is an integral part of the game, but many struggle with how to weaken a nation in the first place.

Luckily, this list helps those who need a few pointers on how to quickly and effectively deplete these nations’ power. It might take a few tries to accomplish this feat, but it will eventually come naturally after they make it to a few conquest battles.

10 Kill Soldiers

The easiest way for a player to start this process is to kill soldiers of the ruling state, which will either be Athens or Sparta. The map will tell a player who is in control of the region, but this tip only applies to soldiers.

It won’t do much damage to their power, although, it will allow a player to continue leveling up by earning XP.

9 Loot Nation Chests

A nation’s chest is found within forts in a region and they help drop a nation’s power significantly. The great thing about these is that they reward a player with things like gold, armor, and weapons which they can use to upgrade for the conquest battle to come.

It can be difficult to reach these, as they are usually in a difficult part of the fort to reach, but it is not an impossible task.

8 Burn War Supplies

War supplies are usually found in forts and are marked with the standard purple symbol that indicates they signify a nation’s power. The best way to rid an area of these is to light it with a torch or shoot at the pile with a burning arrow.

It will usually cause the soldiers nearby to come running so players should be sure they have an escape plan once they set the fire.

7 Kill Polemarchs

Polemarchs can be difficult to kill, especially when a fort and nation is at full power. The best plan of attack is to try and weaken these opponents from a distance with arrows before approaching for the final kill.

It is important to watch out for other soldiers as they will also come to their aid if they are attacked in the open. Some are tougher to defeat than others and taming a beast to help a character in this fight could be beneficial.

6 Clear Forts

It has already been discussed how forts hold things like polemarchs, nation chests, and war supplies, but it doesn’t end here. It is best practice for a player to completely clear a fort of all soldiers before moving onto the next adventure as it will lower the nation’s power even more.

This can be time-consuming as sneaking around for stealth kills is often the best approach, but it will all be worth it in the end.

5 Increase A Character’s Level

The various regions across the map will tell players what the recommended level should be before they attempt to make it into a conquest battle. A player can be a few levels off, as weakening the nation will help them reach the point they should be at, but it is best not to be too low.

It will be easier for a player to complete all of the tasks needed to weaken them while at a higher level, then if they start at a disadvantage.

4 Obliterate Weapon Racks

A weapon rack is exactly what you would expect, as it is a wooden stand that holds things like spears and swords. When a player enters into the territory of a ruling nation they should do their best to destroy as many of these racks as possible.

A simple swipe with their weapon will have it crumbling to the ground, or burning it with a torch will have the same effect. These will not be marked with the purple symbol like nation chests and war supplies, so many plays fail to realize that this plays a part in a nation’s power.

3 Destroy Grain Silos

A grain silo is a giant stone structure that is usually domed at the top and can be found in the countryside of a region. They are usually located beside a field and Ikaros will mark them with the purple symbol if sent into the sky.

A player should burn these by either throwing a torch or shooting an arrow at the square hatches on these silos. They should stand back a good distance as they will explode which can cause damage to a player.

2 Visit The Leader’s House

The leader house is marked on the map with the traditional purple marker, and it is one of the last things a player should try and accomplish. They usually hold plenty of items like an Ainigmata Ostraka, war supplies, and treasure chests.

Players will also be tasked with killing the captains on duty as this will weaken the nation even further and make it easier to kill the nation’s leader.

1 Murder A Nation Leader

A nation leader is a slippery fellow who is often surrounded by a posse of highly trained guards and soldiers, but a player can make it easier on themselves. If they handle all of the other items on this list before taking on the leader than his security detail will be greatly reduced.

He can usually be found in his compound, although, others tend to wander in certain parts of the region which can also make it a more difficult kill.
