One of the primary completion tasks in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is to destroy the cult that stole your sibling, The Cult of Kosmos. Hunting down its members will eventually take the player to the Obsidian Islands, where they may meet a woman named Roxana. She has lost all of her family, and she now dedicates all of her energy to winning a local combat tournament to the death — this tournament is called The Battle of One Hundred Hands.
The player’s adventures lead them to join this tournament, meaning they must kill all their opponents… including Roxana. However, there is a way to spare her life at the end of the questline. It hinges on two variables: the player must have participated in training for the tournament with Roxana, and they must have romanced her during those quests.
Call To Arms (Melos)
The player will meet Drakios in Melos. He’s calling out for warriors, heroes, and mercenaries to sign up for the Battle of One Hundred Hands. He boasts about the chance to test their mettle against the best warriors near and far. When speaking to the player, he reveals that the event is backed by the Cult of Kosmos, but won’t go into the details unless they win the tournament.
When the player agrees to participate, Drakios will tell them that they must train with another competitor so that they can vouch for one another’s abilities. There’s an option to bribe him and avoid this section, but don’t take it: it will eliminate the ability to save Roxana at the end of the questline.
Training With Roxana
Working with Roxana is the next step to getting into the tournament, and it’s a required step if the player wants to save her life. They can actually meet Roxana and train with her prior to speaking with Drakios, if they prefer. She will test the player with three challenges: sparring, archery, and racing.
Sparring With Roxana
In the first segment, Roxana and the player spar with melee weapons. The dialogue choices during this quest don’t change much, other than providing some background about why Roxana is joining the Battle. She reveals her father, mother, and brother all died during the contest, and she wants to become Champion in their honour.
Win the battle against Roxana. Afterwards, the player will go with Roxana to a shipwreck on the nearby shore for target practice.
Archery Practice
The archery segment on the beach is the first opportunity the player will get to flirt with Roxana. Take all flirt options that are provided, since romancing her is required in order to save her life later.
During this segment, the player needs to kill all the wolves with their bow and arrow. Performing well at this task earns some admiration from Roxana, but doesn’t make or break the romance. Once they’ve finished, they’ll get to flirt with Roxana one more time before returning to town for the final challenge.
Foot Race
The foot race is as simple as it sounds. The player will race against Roxana to reach the “high point” of the island (appropriately named Lover’s Leap). Afterwards, the pair will take a break to chat as they overlook the land and sea beyond.
The first few dialogue options of this quest don’t make a difference. Towards the end, however, the player needs to encourage Roxana’s flirtations.
When Roxana says: “That’s Melos island right there. Where so many warriors go to die. At the Battle, we may have to fight each other. And only one of us will survive.”
- The player should respond: “Let’s not talk about that.”
When Roxana says: “How’s this for in the moment?”
- The player should respond: “It’ll do.”
This will result in the two of them spending the night together and parting in the morning.
The Great Contender
When the player returns to speak to Drakios, they can commence the Battle of One Hundred Hands. After listening to Drakios’ speech, the tournament will start and the player must clear their battlefield of other enemies.
Roxana will not be among the fighters they face. Once they have slaughtered all their opponents and returned to the city gates, Drakios reveals that Roxana has also survived and that the two must fight to the death.
Legend No More
Legend No More is the final quest in the Battle of One Hundred Hands series. In it, the player can either kill Roxana and claim the title or recruit her as a lieutenant for their ship.
The dialogue options during this section are critical to saving Roxana’s life.
After Roxana says: “There’s no escaping our fate, misthios.”
- The player should respond: “We don’t have to do this.”
After Roxana says: “I’m beginning to think there are things more important than riches and glory.”
- The player should respond: “Recruit - Join me.”
Drakios will be outraged and insist that there must be a champion. When his armed guards (scions of the Cult of Kosmos) run to his aid, Roxana and Kassandra must slaughter them all. The pair shares a final, touching moment together looking out over the sea.
