One of the integral parts of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is the important choices you make along the way as it can change the outcome of the story, such as choosing between Vili and Trygve for Jarl. It can be fun to play it through multiple times and see the different outcomes, however, one ending is often better than the other. There are some choices you make that determine which ending you receive, as well as adjust certain parts of the storyline.

This does contain spoilers, and this is your warning in case you want to complete the game before knowing the rest of the story. Keep reading to learn what choices you should be making in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, as well as the consequences of making the wrong decision!

Updated December 12, 2021 By Ben Jessey:Decision-making is a recent addition to the Assassin’s Creed series. In the early games, you followed a linear story. But in Valhalla, you can alter how the main narrative plays out. Therefore, there are a lot of big decisions to make during the game.

We made this guide to acknowledge and explain the most important ones. Yet, due to the release of a few story-based DLCs, this was no longer a complete collection. So, we’ve now added a few more that are worth mentioning.

17 Kill Or Spare Ciara (Wrath of the Druids DLC)?

In the Wrath of the Druids expansion, Ciara is a good friend and possibly a romantic partner of Eivor. However, after she activates the Lia Fail and is consumed with its power, the wolf-kissed needs to stop her. After the battle, she pleads for death, as that would make it impossible for the monument to be used for evil again.

If you accept, Eivor kills her, and King Flann destroys the ancient stone. Alternatively, you can spare your friend and remind her that the stone is the true source of evil, not her. In this second scenario, she destroys the monument.

16 Do You Kill King Charles (The Siege Of Paris DLC)?

King Charles is a good man driven mad due to his difficult life. And at the end of The Siege Of Paris DLC, you face off against the unstable monarch. During the battle, you can either kill or trap your foe.

If you kill the King, Queen Richardis is furious with you and criticizes your lack of mercy. Count Odo, however, is ecstatic that the King is dead. By sparing him, though, their reactions are reversed, with the Queen being happy and the Count being angry. Whatever you do, Charles loses his power, and your people’s safety is guaranteed.

15 Should You Side With Faravid?

During the Eurvicscire Arc, Halfdan chokes after drinking from a lead cup gifted to him by Faravid. At this point, everyone realizes that the King’s erratic behavior is a result of lead poisoning, seemingly caused by the goblets that his friend has been giving him. Naturally, Halfdan is furious with Faravid, and you can either condemn or defend the accused.

Taking Faravid’s side spares his life, but he is still exiled from Jorvik. Whereas, if you agree with Halfdan, you must fight your friend, and the King ends up murdering him.

14 Should Vili Or Trygve Be The Next Jarl?

Snotinghamscire needs a new Jarl and it is up to you to choose whether it should be Vili or Trygve. It should be noted this choice is only possible if you tell Trygve he shouldn’t burn himself on the funeral pyre, which really shouldn’t be a hard decision for you anyway.

The choice you make will determine if you add another member to your settlement to help you collect some of the best runes.

Should Trygve Burn Himself On The Funeral Pyre?

Trygve was the right hand to the former Jarl in Snotinghamscire and felt deeply sorrowed by his passing. He was so moved that he wanted to burn himself atop the funeral pyre so he could accompany the man to Valhalla.

If you want Trygve to be Jarl, or a choice at all when the time comes, then the answer is to stop him from doing this. However, if you have already decided Vili is to be Jarl then it does not matter what choice you make as Trygve’s death would automatically make this a reality.

What Happens If You Choose Trygve?

You are given the decision as to who will become Jarl during a conversation with Vili. Eivor can decide to uplift Vili’s confidence by informing him that he should be Jarl, or tell him that Trygve would be the better choice.

If you choose to let Trygve live, then you can choose for him to be Jarl. Those who decide to make Trygve Jarl are making the right decision as this will send Vili to your settlement to become part of your raiding crew.

What Happens If You Choose Vili?

Some players decide that Vili Hemmingson deserves to be Jarl (as he is the former Jarl’s son after all) and would like to see him in a position of power in Snotinghamscire. However, Trygve will not join your settlement if this is the case, but no matter which man you choose there will still be an alliance with this region.

13 Do You Take The Resources?

When Eivor and Sigurd ultimately make the decision to leave Norway for England, you are given the option to take or leave the resources that you just collected from Kjotve’s Fortress. If you take the resources, Sigurd will be disappointed in your decision, but you will start out with 700 Supplies and 20 Raw Materials.

If you choose to leave them, Sigurd will be pleased, and you will start in England with 300 Supplies and 20 Raw Materials. You should choose to leave them as not doing so could negatively change the outcome of the story.

12 Should Dag Be Given His Ax?

Dag decides he wants to fight Eivor and it is one of the many boss fights you will encounter throughout the game, so make sure to have your best armor equipped. You will obviously come out on top, and Dag will be left to die.

It is up to you to decide whether to give him his ax, but you should not deny him entrance into Valhalla. It is a decision that will affect your relationship with Sigurd and might cause him to choose to stay in Norway after you beat the game.

11 Does Ubba Need To Know The Truth About His Brother’s Death?

Eivor is the one who will send Ivarr to the grave, but you can choose to give him his ax or deny him Valhalla. This decision does not matter, but what you choose to tell Ubba does.

You need to be honest with Ubba about your choice. Not doing so will damage your relationship and cause you to have a fistfight with him later on in the game. Basically, if you denied Ivarr his ax, then you need to say he died badly, and vice versa.

10 Should Eivor Kill Or Spare Rued?

Eivor is given the choice to kill or spare Rued after defeating him the first time but killing him is not the way to go. Yes, Finnr will automatically join the Raven Clan, but you will miss out on a cut scene.

If you spare him, then Rued will make an appearance at Oswald’s wedding where either you or Oswald can fight him. You should choose to fight in his stead as it will cause Finnr to join you rather than stay by Oswald’s side.

9 Do You Buy Tonna A Cow?

When you are searching for information about the whereabouts of the king you will be sent to Tonna during the story, but she will request payment for a cow in return. You can pay her 560 silver, or if you have charisma then this amount is cut in half.

Otherwise, she will lock you out of her fortress and you will have to sneak back in to find the clues. However, one tip is if you do pay her you can walk up behind her as she heads back into the fortress and steal it from her so you easily have the answers and don’t lose any silver in the process.

8 Who Is Soma’s Traitor?

This is probably one of the most involved choices in the game (which is why Soma has one of the best storylines) and it is up to you to find clues to help her discover who is the traitor among her three advisors. You will have to talk to the people near the longhouse, the advisors themselves, and uncover clues that will help learn the truth.

The correct choice is Galinn, which will lead to his immediate death, but choosing Lif or Birna has its own consequences. If you choose the wrong person for Soma to kill then Galinn will admit it was him, and now Soma will have two dead advisors and Birna won’t become one of your Jomsviking.

7 Do You Punch Basim And Sigurd?

Eivor finds herself in a heated argument with Basim and Sigurd while in Oxenefordescire and she has to decide whether or not she wants to punch Basim and Sigurd. The only choice that has the possibility to change the story is if she punches Basim, even if it does make for an epic meme.

This is one of the choices that Sigurd views poorly and it could change the outcome of the story.

6 Kill Or Spare Leofrith?

This is a difficult decision to make following this boss fight, and Odin’s advice leads you toward the wrong choice. He suggests that Leofrith wants to die with glory, but killing him will make life harder on you in the game.

If you spare Leofrith and tell him the truth about the King’s loyalty, then he will be grateful and inform you of the location of a scroll to destroy. Once this is done then the Zealots will no longer hunt you down around England.

5 Who Gets The Silver?

Eivor is responsible for keeping the peace, and the favorable outcome is when you decide to keep the silver for yourself by lying to the bishop. If you give it to Lady Angharad, Ivarr, or Ynr the advisor then a fight will break out that ends with Gwriad’s death and no silver in your pockets.

However, if you do give it to Gwriad you can still loot the silver off his dead body.

4 How Do You Take The Mead From Gunlodr?

When you venture to Jotunheim one of the quests is to retrieve the mead, but Gunlodr will stop you from taking it. Fortunately, you can avoid a fight as long as you bring her Thor’s Bridal Circlet, which will allow you to romance her and take the mead without a struggle once the deed is done.

If you don’t unlock or choose this option then she will call for the guards and you will have to fight them in order to retrieve it, and many choose to use a spear.

3 Should You Have An Affair With Randvi?

Randvi will confess her feelings for Eivor after their grand adventure away from the settlement, and this is a choice that could change the outcome of the story. If you choose to sleep with Randvi, then Sigurd will find out and might choose to live in Norway in the end.

However, the other two choices are the safer option, but telling Randvi that it’s not the right time will still have her stay with you in the tower till morning. You should keep in mind that you can still romance Randvi after her marriage is over with Sigurd, so it is best to wait until after you beat the game.

2 Who Will Be The Next Ealdorman Of Lincolnscire?

Lincolnscire needs to appoint a new Ealdorman, and you can choose from Aelfgar, Hunwald, and Bishop Herefrith. The worst choice you can make is Bishop Herefrith, as he is a member of the Order of the Ancients and you will need to kill him.

The best choice is Aelfgar, as Hunwald will choose to come back to your settlement, but either way, it will end with an alliance with Lincolnscire.

1 Do You Support Sigurd’s Judgement?

This is the final chance that Eivor has to make an impression on Sigurd if she wants him to reside in England, although it still leaves the door open for some lingering questions. Eivor will take the complaints of Holger and Gudrun, as she claims that he stole some of her sails.

However, before she can lay her own judgment Sigurd steps in and demands he deal with the problem as Jarl. His decision is a bit harsh, but you must agree to it if you want him to stay, otherwise, this decision could cause him to leave England for good.
