Every gamer has a few favorite characters that they will never forget, even long after the game is over. They are the best based on their actions, personality, and overall character as it is easy to feel emotionally connected to them as they take their journey. Others are just plain annoying, especially when their character arc takes a nosedive partway through the story.
Here, we can identify which of the main characters are the best, and those that drive players up a wall every time they appear on their screen.
10 Best: Eivor
Eivor is obviously one of the best, as they are the reason why many play the game in the first place, and she has been the focus of several hilarious memes. Whether you choose the male, female, or animus-selected version of this character you won’t be disappointed as they take over England with both their blade and their wit. They make the game desirable and keep you hooked the entire time, especially since the voice actors did such a phenomenal job.
9 Annoying: Ivarr
Ivarr was annoying from the get-go as he was torturing a few poor souls the first time you met him. He only grew worse from there, especially as he continued to put poor Ceolbert’s life at greater risk every time he came back into the story.
Ivarr is one of the real-life Vikings that they included in the game, but now it is one you probably wish they hadn’t. The icing on the cake was when it was discovered that he was the one responsible for Ceolbert’s death after torturing King Rhodri, and no one could fault you if you decided to deny him Valhalla for this reason.
8 Best: Stowe
Stowe can be found in Lunden, and his morality is what makes him one of the best main characters in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. It comes as no surprise seeing as he was raised by priests who taught him the difference between right and wrong, especially when it comes to unnecessary bloodshed. He becomes even better when his adorable relationship with Erke is discovered, as it is arguably one of the best things to come of the game.
7 Annoying: Fulke
Fulke is beyond annoying from the start as you have to listen to Sigurd make a big deal about her, then you have to rescue her from imprisonment. Once she is rescued, the way she speaks sounds mad, not to mention her torturous tendencies.
It should come as no surprise seeing she is a member of The Order of the Ancients, but the developers didn’t have to make her so loathable. She grows even worse when you have to fight her in the dark while she runs around as a madwoman taking stabs at your back.
6 Best: Oswald
Oswald’s character arc is what caught the hearts and minds of players as they yearned for him to become king. Hearts were breaking when he went over the edge of the cliff with Rued as no one thought he could have survived the fall. The joy players felt when they found out he was alive, as well as the sweet things he did for his bride, made him one of the best main characters in the game.
5 Annoying: Loki
Loki can be found in Asgard, and his role as a trickster in traditional Norse mythology should have been the first clue. He pulls several tricks on Havi, with the worst being the fact that his son is a wolf. His voice alone is enough to make you disgusted with him and this is one main character you probably wish wasn’t in the game at all.
4 Best: Ceolbert
Ceolbert was the son of Ceolwulf II of Mercia, and his untimely death broke the hearts of everyone playing this game. He was supposed to be the Ealdorman, but instead, his life was cut short by Ivarr which only made players love him even more.
He had a good soul and always sought to do what was right, although what made it better was how Eivor looked after him. Eivor, as well as fans, wanted to watch as he became a man and took a leadership position as his character made fans want to see how he grew as a person.
3 Annoying: Basim
Basim showed up out of nowhere and from the beginning, it was suspicious how Sigurd just happened to run into him. He only grew more mysterious as the game went on as he encouraged Sigurd’s insane way of thinking, but it made him annoying at the same time. The end of the game reveals that he is a reincarnation of Loki so it only makes sense that you feel this way about him throughout the story, even if it did leave you with several lingering questions.
2 Best: Randvi
Randvi was always a solid rock for Eivor to lean on in times of need, as well as for the rest of the settlement as she took her place as their leader. It is her intelligence involving the various locations and friendship with Eivor that makes her one of the best.
Some may look down on her for cheating or attempting to cheat on Sigurd, but she makes it very clear from the beginning that her marriage was arranged and if she could find a way out of it she would. It helps players understand her impossible position as she is stuck in her role with no way out.
1 Annoying: Sigurd
Sigurd plays a major part in the story, but the more you see of him, the more annoying he becomes, even if he did have one of the best storylines. His descent into madness and claims that he is a God will have even you rolling your eyes, and some may not want him to return to England at all near the end of the story. He was supposed to be Eivor’s brother, but instead, he turned into a man hungry for power and ready to place blame whenever he saw fit.
