Heavy Shields is one of the weapons that are available for you to use in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. These things are massive, and heavy as well, but they are a great addition to slower combat styles. They also have amazing perks to go along with them, not to mention they look amazing when Eivor has them slung over her back.

There is a total of seven Heavy Shields in the game that you can use, and some are better than others. However, you can decide for yourself based on your playstyle and the stats of each of the available shields. The stats listed may go up or down based on what you have unlocked on your skill tree in regards to your mastery with heavy shields and bonuses given to aligned gear.

Kite Shield

This shield can be found in Grantedbridgescire in the Wandrie settlement, just south of Meldeburne, and located on the Great Ouse River. There will be a large hut with red flags and this is where you can acquire this piece of equipment.

It is described as a Fine Heavy Shield and is a basic piece of gear that must be upgraded with every kind of ingot. The perk of this shield is that it will increase heavy damage the longer you hold onto a blocking stance.

Stats

  • Attack: 74 Block: 77 Crit-Pre: 44 Speed: 23 Stun: 76 Weight: 20

Oaken Kite Shield

This is a Superior Heavy Shield and it can be found in Maeldun which is located in a region called Essexe. There will be a tavern by some pools where a breakable wall can be found and this is where the Oaken Kite Shield can be retrieved.

It is slightly faster than the more basic version of this shield, and its blocking and attack are slightly better as well. However, it is better when facing ranged enemies as its perk increases your ranged damage for each ranged attack you manage to block.

  • Attack: 85 Block: 105 Crit-Pre: 54 Speed: 31 Stun: 122 Weight: 15

Plank And Buckler Shield

The Plank and Buckler Shield is another Superior Heavy Shield and, it can be discovered in East Anglia, so you will have access to this shield earlier in the game. The location is in the eastern portion of this region in a place known as Sutton Hoo. All you have to do is head into the cave that leads underground to put this shield in your inventory.

This shield is fairly similar in stats to the Oaken Kite Shield, but its perk is that it will increase your heavy damage when performing a parry. This means that you can inflict enough damage to subdue some enemies with a single hit.

  • Attack: 87 Block: 103 Crit-Pre: 50 Speed: 23 Stun: 116 Weight: 18

Sarcophagus Shield

The Sarcophagus Shield is located in Sciropscire in a location called Dhustone Quarry. There is a hole in the wall beside a cage of prisoners and this is where a chest can be found carrying this item.

It has fairly decent stats, but its perk is what makes it so desirable and one of the best weapons in the game. If you parry an attack then you have a chance to create a small fire around Eivor’s body. However, some hate this due to the fact that it often leads to several civilian casualties.

  • Attack: 82 Block: 98 Crit-Pre: 50 Speed: 27 Stun: 111 Weight: 17

Royal Guard

This is a Superior Heavy Shield and it can be purchased at Tamworth Fortress for 500 silver. The location of the fortress is near the center of Lechestrescire, but if you can’t find it you will visit it during part of the story.

The perk associated with this shield is that it will increase heavy damage while blocking, which is useful in any close fight as it will allow you to take down your enemies more quickly. It is perfect for anyone who is great at parrying and taking a defensive stance, as its block and stun are exceptionally high.

  • Attack: 85 Block: 103 Crit-Pre: 67 Speed: 29 Stun: 122 Weight: 14

Hircocervus Scale

This is a Mythical Heavy Shield that is part of the Draugr Armor set, which means it can’t be found in the game. It is part of a microtransaction and the entire set costs 2,000 Helix Credits. You can buy 2,300 Helix Credits for $20 so it would allow you to have the entire set and something a little extra.

Some may wonder if it is worth it to buy the set just for this shield, and the answer is it depends on you as a player. The perk does increase your melee damage when blocking and its exterior literally glows so if you primarily use shields as a weapon then this is for you.

  • Attack: 114 Block: 134 Crit-Pre: 59 Speed: 24 Stun: 123 Weight: 18

Rune Shield

This shield can be earned by completing ten missions for Reda after he is established in Ravensthorpe. It is a quest for you to complete and once you have fulfilled his terms then you can return to him and receive this Superior Heavy Shield. The perk for this weapon is that it will increase Eivor’s ability damage when close to full health.

However, beware as one glitch in the game is that sometimes this contract doesn’t let you talk to Reda after it is finished. One fix that players have found if this does happen is to collect all of the Codex pages for Hytham as he will then send you to Reda. This fixes the issue and allows you to complete the contract as well as buy items by trading opal once again.

  • Attack: 82 Block: 93 Crit-Pre: 54 Speed: 23 Stun: 108 Weight: 17
