The world of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla is filled with as many beautiful locations as dangerous ones. In these dangerous areas, Ubisoft has placed a variety of different enemies be they human or even wildlife. There are a variety of different fighters with varying fighting styles and one of the more unique and tough enemies is the banneret.
The banneret is an enemy that wields a large sword and can be seen as a predecessor of sorts to knights as we know them today. They are seasoned fighters that know how to use that sword is a variety of ways. Here is how players can defeat the banneret.
What They Are
The banneret is a Saxon and is considered a commander among them. As such they are good at commanding nearby archers to launch attacks at you.
Since they are considered seasoned enough to be a leader among the soldiers, they are extremely proficient at wielding that two-handed sword they carry around. Bannerets will vary his moves according to the conditions of the fight and is even capable of blocking and parrying attacks, usually marked by a blue light when they go into a defensive stance.
The Best Build And Skill Set To Use
Any build, like a light build or a heavy one, would be good but be sure that there is at least some versatility to it to counteract the banneret’s varying fighting styles.
As for skills, it is best to have some healing skills such as last chance healing to heal yourself should things reach the brink of defeat. Grit would also be a good skill to acquire since it lets health to be regained on successful melee hits.
As for abilities, having ranged abilities would definitely help with crowd control so you do not get too overwhelmed. Mark of death, which enables the player to target multiple enemies at once, is good as well as raven distraction to distract the banneret so you can focus on the archers.
Face To Face With The Banneret
Eventually, it will finally be time to face the banneret in combat. As previously mentioned, the banneret will alter their fighting style accordingly and is capable of parrying the blows of the player.
As such it is important to keep in mind a few strategies to best counter the strengths of the banneret.
Vary Tactics
Since they adjust their moves, it is best that you do the same as well. Variety is the spice of life and the same can be said about tactics.
Go back and forth when it comes to dealing damage with light and heavy attacks. Light attacks come in handy when trying to get in a few quick hits to regain health through grit whereas heavy attacks can break up the attempts at blocking.
It is also best to switch from melee attacks to ranged attacks with bows. It is best to use a bow when the banneret is in their parry stance (watch for a blue light). Be sure to leave plenty of space between you and the banneret.
Crowd Control
Archers will be on stand-by to fire once the banneret gives the command to. Archers, while easy to fight, can be annoying in this case if you ignore them and focus solely on the banneret. This is where a ranged fighting style also comes in handy.
The raven distraction ability can be used on the banneret to keep them distracted while focusing on the archers. Mark of death can be used to take out multiple enemies at once to save the hassle of going back and forth to deal with them.
Keep these things in mind to beat the banneret at their own game and add another body to Eivor’s ever-growing body count.
