With all of the matchmaking, kingmaking, politics, and romance going on in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, it can be easy to forget that this game is based, first and foremost, on a Viking invasion. So when an area like Suthsexe comes along and boasts of a siege, it’s a nice way to ground players with what the game is really all about.

Of course, Sigurd’s life also hangs in the mix and depends on Eivor’s success. But this questline is on the longer and complex side, with many places to get turned around and lost. This guide will go point-by-point over every single objective for the region and give any relevant pointers as well to ensure that the Siege of Portcestre is a successful one.

Reaver Of The South

  • Find And Speak With Basim

Randvi will direct you to Croindene, though the marker will disappear when you get close. Check the longhouse to find Basim witnessing Guthram dispensing some harsh discipline.

  • Find And Kill The Scouts

You’ll be given three points all over the region to visit. When you’re close, use your bird to get a precise location on the scout in each area. One is dead and guarded by wolves, another has allies, and a third has a message from Fulke to bring back to the group.

  • Find And Speak To Basim Push Back Portcestre’s Forces

Return to Basim who is with Guthram at a forward outpost. After a brief interaction, you’ll be beset by attackers. The tooltip says to “push back” these forces, but it’s really just asking for an overall body count. Kill enemy soldiers until the bar is full to progress. Do not count on your allies, only your kills will contribute to filling up the meter.

  • Defeat The Champion

Fulke’s champion is not given a boss health bar, but the guy is dual-wielding two-handed greatswords, so it’s best not to take him for granted. He lacks a fast red attack, so he’s particularly weak to being blocked and countered.

  • Carry Borthir’s Body

After placing Borthir’s body on the ground, you’ll watch a cutscene and move on to the next step.

Arrive Unexpected

  • Regroup With Stowe Secure The Saxon Camp

After following the marker to meet up with Erke and Stowe, you’ll be confronted with a tough choice. Select “We will try it your way, Stowe.” Although Eivor and Erke will act like Stowe failed to talk the men down, a group of soldiers will indeed be persuaded to walk away from the fight.

Afterward, wipe out those who rejected the peace offering to finish this brief stage.

Let Them Eat Ashes

  • Speak To Ubba Burn The Grain Silos

You’ll be directed to meet with Ubba who is itching for a fight. Go ahead and give him one; while stealth is certainly an option, the way the six silos are spread out and defended means it’s much shorter to just fight through it. Use your bird to find and mark the silos to save you some time.

You can burn the haystacks outside of the silos and buy yourself more time for the fire to spread before the explosion or simply toss the torch onto the silo for a quick blast. This mission is automatically completed after burning the last silo, there is no need to talk to Ubba afterward.

Scorched Earth

  • Speak To Soma Burn Down Crowleah

Soma and her soldiers are hiding in some bushes, scouting a bandit town of Crawleah. Though there are soldiers to kill here, you’ll finish the mission faster if you ignore enemies and set cottages and carts on fire because they are the only thing that count toward the goal.

Like the last mission, the quest will complete upon the meters filling up, so you’re free to move on.

Severing The Lines

  • Speak To Basim Sabotage Briggworth

Basim is waiting for you on an elevated platform just outside of the objective area. There is a convenient zipline to take in and start the battle. The boats will all be well-marked. If the combat is too fierce next to them, remember that each boat has a fire jar on it which you can quickly shoot to speed things along. The dock commander is next to these boats and impossible to miss.

If you aren’t keen on killing every single unit in the structure, you can scale the outside walls and jump down through the roof to find the keep commander. After all three objectives, you’ll be moved along to the next stage of the questline right away.

Storming The Walls

  • Speak To Basim

Tell him you’re ready to begin the assault.

  • Breach The Gate Destroy One Of The Palisades Lift The Porticulis Destroy The Palisade Get Inside The Keep

By now, you’ll be familiar with how to win an assault quest. You can take out the oil cauldrons with arrows from the ground for an easier time leading the ram. Both of the initial palisades have a fire jar next to them for an easy checkmark, but the final one does not. An exploding arrow will take the last barrier down instantly, but if you don’t have that, there is a fire jar in the center of the courtyard, you’ll just have a lot of enemies to clear out first.

  • Search For Sigurd

After examining the devices used to torture Sigurd, step onto the balcony and you’ll spot Fulke boastfully running away.

  • Get Inside The Church

Jump down into the hay and use the zipline to speed up the process. After skipping all of that combat, you’ll find a door to bash down with Basim. Following a cutscene, you’ll be face to face with arguably the game’s most iconic antagonist.

  • Find And Kill Fulke

Fulke isn’t messing around and it’s one of the reasons she’s ranked as one of the game’s hardest bosses. During the first stage, she attacks from the shadows and you have only a single light source. Equip a torch in your offhand to make the fight a fair one, after that, it’s a matter of timing your dodges and blocks. She will extinguish the light and you will have to move on to another new light source as the battle progresses.

A cutscene will trigger when she’s down to one-third of her health.

  • Kill Fulke

For her second and final stand, she grabs a heavy wooden cross to attack you with. She’s much weaker here, her health has not regenerated from the previous encounter, and a stun effect will cause her to drop her weapon. Finish her off for the last time.

  • Hold Off The Saxons

It’s not worded this way, but the objective here is to kill all of the Saxon soldiers. This will trigger another cutscene.

Of All That Has Passed

  • Speak To Sigurd Find And Speak To Sigurd

Head back home to Ravensthorpe. Entering the longhouse will trigger a cutscene. Afterward, find him again by Dag’s grave and speak to him for a second cutscene that will complete this leg of the questline.

Reporting On Suthsexe

  • Report To Randvi

Go and give the (sort of) good news to Randvi and you’ll be all wrapped up for Suthsexe!
