When Anthem launched, it seems like an understatement to suggest fans were disappointed. The game missed the mark several times over, resulting in an experience that ended up at the bottom of BioWare’s games. However, as with all games, there were still fans—fans who hoped that this planned overhaul, known as Anthem NEXT or Anthem 2.0, would give the game a No Man’s Sky-style revival. EA has since confirmed, however, that the overhaul has been canceled....
How about we end the week with a very entertaining video game conspiracy theory? According to a group of gamer sleuths on Reddit and ResetEra forums, a recently announced indie game coming exclusively to the PS5 called Abandoned may secretly be a new Silent Hill game from none other than auteur Hideo Kojima. The theory is gathering so much steam online that even Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, arguably gaming’s foremost investigative journalist, was almost 100% convinced the conspiracy was true at one point (although he’s no longer sure)....

Ubisoft has released the premiere trailer for Assassin’s Creed: Origins, which will deal with the founding of the Assassin’s Brotherhood in ancient Egypt. The trailer provides an in depth look at the ancient Egyptian setting and a few of the featured gameplay elements that can be expected when Origins drops in October of this year. The trailer begins with a voiceover disclosing the establishment of the Assassin’s Brotherhood, harkening to figures of ancient Egyptian folklore intermingled with the series’ familiar hooded assassins....
Earlier this week, Ubisoft announced that it would be giving away Assassin’s Creed Unity for free following the Notre-Dame fire. While the company received an outpouring of support on social media, gamers have also taken to the game’s Steam review section to praise the company. The game’s Steam reviews chart, which tracks how many positive or negative reviews have been published in a timeframe, shows that around 400 positive reviews for Assassin’s Creed Unity have been left between April 15 and April 19....
A Hunter Bow in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is primarily used for exactly what its name states, and it is part of what makes it the best bow in the game. It will give you a third-person view, unlike the Predator Bows which give you a first-person look when you go to shoot. They are fairly balanced as they are an in-between of a Light Bow and Predator Bow in terms of damage rates and speed....

The news came directly from the latest Ubisoft earnings call, during which the sales figures for key Ubisoft franchises like Watchdogs, Assassin’s Creed, and Rainbow Six Siege were revealed. The biggest piece of news is that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is currently the most successful and popular Assassin’s Creed game ever made....

Last year, the COVID-19 pandemic forced various gaming events to either shut down or go digital, including the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Game Awards. Netflix wowed us with their take on the Marvel Universe. While the gritty street heroes Netflix covered did not save the city from a Chitauri invasion, they went up against evil that preyed on the innocents of their cities. Watching Daredevil for the first time was like a breath of fresh air. (The Ben Affleck movie wasn’t terrible, but it isn’t the stellar-ness that the Netflix show is.) Jessica Jones was riveting; I didn’t sleep for a day because of how engrossing it was....

Earlier today, it was made official that Borderlands developer Gearbox would be merging with holding company Embracer. The deal set the company back a whopping $1.3 billion, with Gearbox coming out and stating that the money would help facilitate big projects the company is hoping to pursue going forward into the future. One of the biggest questions coming from the acquisition was whether 2K Games would continue to publish Gearbox’s Borderlands series, with the company having distributed each iteration of the franchise....

In a sad bit of news, an employee from Kojima Productions has recently tested positive for COVID-19. The company made an announcement on Twitter today and has stated it will be enacting precautionary measures to prevent other employees from getting the disease. Much like other companies, Kojima Productions will be temporarily closing the office, sanitizing the entire facility, and having employees work remotely until the necessary time has passed. In a PDF on the company’s official website, it was noted that the employee that tested positive hasn’t been to the office since March 20, 2020....
