Mafia: Definitive Edition just hit store shelves, and reception is decidedly mixed. Personally, I thought half of it was a pretty winning game, and the other half was an unpolished slog. Regardless, its moniker got me thinking about the trend of so-called “definitive editions” being used interchangeably with “remasters” or “remakes” of games. To me, the “definitive edition” of something should be, well… definitive. Whether it’s a movie, an album, or a video game, a definitive version of something should be the best way to experience a work of art....

Among yesterday’s huge Game Awards announcements was the reveal that Ark would be getting a sequel, with the announcement trailer featuring Fast and Furious star Vin Diesel in the central role. However, the reveal was followed by another interesting tidbit for fans of the multiplayer game, with the team revealing that an animated TV series would be joining the follow-up in 2022. Simply titled Ark: The Animated Series, the show received a brief teaser hinting that it will center around an as of yet unnamed female character navigating the treacherous world established through Ark: Survival Evolved and its expansions....

Ubisoft is jamming Assassin’s Creed Odyssey with plenty of new content as the series steps deeper into the RPG genre: the game will feature dialogue choices, recruitable warriors, romance options, and plenty of new combat abilities. Alexios and Kassandra won’t be tied to any specific side of the war as they progress through the game, and their combat won’t be limited to just dry land. With the in-game map being mostly covered by sea, gamers should anticipate plenty of naval combat to arrive with the tide of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey when the game ships this October....

One of the harder aspects of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla involves defeating a variety of legendary animals of various power levels who are scattered across the map. New Pokemon Snap is finally here, and new fans of Pokemon and old alike are loving this game. There’s a sentimental attachment from those who played the old Nintendo 64 version, moving through the levels as Todd to find Mew at the end (and you can find him in the new one too!). New players just love that this is a different style of Pokemon, one that’s easy to zone out to and play on a lazy day since the gameplay is beautiful but not particularly complicated....

The content is never-ending when it comes to Cyberpunk 2077 bugs. For CD Projekt Red’s next trick, it’s made one in-game perk the complete antithesis of its purpose - allowing the cars of Night City to become your number one enemy. What should have been hours of groundbreaking RPG gameplay and a marker for next-gen gaming has turned into a parade of glitches. It’s a laughing stock to the detriment of the developer, but at least the results of releasing an unfinished game has its comical perks for the community....

With discussions circling around a possible Let’s Go Sinnoh remake of Pokemon Diamond & Pearl, I can’t help but feel that Nintendo is sorely underestimating the potential of its other IPs. For a studio where exclusives and classics go hand-in-hand, it’s odd that Nintendo rarely pops up with a Link’s Awakening. Rather, you’re more likely to find that it ignores the older titles altogether, emulates them, or ports them over in HD with a tweak or two here and there, while other studios with beloved oldies are pushing to bring them up to the forefront for new generations to enjoy....

It hasn’t been a great past few days for both Diablo fans and Activision Blizzard. During BlizzCon this past weekend, the announcement of a brand new mobile game, Diablo Immortal, didn’t go over too well with fans, leading to a heavily skewed like-to-dislike ratio on the game’s announcement trailer on YouTube, as well as fan Q&A sessions making for uncomfortable situations for the developers. It’s clear from that many people aren’t happy with the choices Activision Blizzard has made when it comes to the Diablo franchise, and the negative reception has affected it on the business side as well....

The only way gamers can play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is by buying special editions of Infinite Warfare, which one writer thinks is a mistake. In the current landscape of video gaming, there is not exactly a shortage on remasters. Numerous games from the previous generation have gotten facelifts so companies can attempt to resell them to new-gen console owners, with varying degrees of success. I could argue that only a handful of video game remasters can even justify their existence, but there are some games with enough fanfare that actually makes it a worthwhile version....

AMD’s response to Nvidia’s 30 Series graphics cards has now been revealed. During a highly-anticipated presentation today, AMD revealed its three top-of-the-line new Radeon graphics cards, including the RX 6800, RX 6800 XT, and RX 6900 XT. The RX 6800 XT received significant focus during the presentation, being AMD’s direct competitor with Nvidia’s GeForce 3080 card, and of particular importance is AMD’s price for the RX 6800 XT, which is set specifically to undercut Nvidia....
