One of the oldest franchises in the RPG genre, Ys history dates all the way back to 1987. Originally released for the PC-8801, Ancient Ys Vanished was only the first installment in a legendary saga whose penchant for adventure is perhaps rivaled only by The Legend of Zelda. In spite of the series’ storied lineage, however, Ys has never garnered the western attention it’s deserving of. Of course, this in itself is because Ys hasn’t exactly had the smoothest development history within the past three decades....

This news comes from the video game company’s earnings call for the fourth quarter of 2020. Despite the Forsaken DLC being a step in the right direction for Destiny 2, the game has still failed to meet expectations as far as sales and “re-engaging” the franchise go. Agents of SHIELD is proving to be the little show that could, with Marvel announcing that the show is getting its own major panel at San Diego Comic Con. It’s not just any panel, either, as the event is scheduled to take place at SDCC’s Hall H. For reference, Hall H is where a lot of the big players in media have their panels. This year alone will see SHIELD joined by the likes of Star Trek and Netflix....

Sony has confirmed plans to release a next-generation PlayStation VR headset for the PS5, but it won’t be launching until 2022 at the earliest. But even though next-generation PlayStation VR headsets are on the horizon, Sony is still making sure that there is plenty of content in the pipeline for the original PSVR on PS4. Today Sony surprised VR fans by revealing six new games on the way for PlayStation VR, including some rather notable titles....

These last few weeks have seen several Watch Dogs leaks reported all over the internet and Ubisoft is expected to announce the franchise’s third installment at E3 this month. Watch Dogs has been one of the publisher’s top IPs since it first released in 2014 and the upcoming title is tipped to be a hit. The 2016 sequel, Watch Dogs 2, was well received by the masses but the game has yet to deliver on its promise, having been touted to be the open-world game that would surpass Grand Theft Auto 5....

The Hunter in Bloodborne has their hands full handling all the monsters in Yharnam, and Amygdala is one of the most imposing in the game. Unfortunately, there is almost no information on who or what this creature is. U/Rakuyo_Lorehunter on Reddit speculates that Amygdala could be related to Stinkhorns in their appearance, or to Kali because of its limbs. According to Michael Pachter, a well-known gaming industry analyst, Sony “really blew it” with the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition. The analyst recently sat down with Gaming Bolt to discuss both Microsoft’s and Sony’s next-gen strategies, and he didn’t mince words when explaining his thoughts on the Digital Edition. “I think Sony really blew it with that, because as far as we can tell, the cost of making a PlayStation 5 is $450, so they are breaking even on the $500 version, but losing $40 or so on the digital version,” said Pachter....

The March Sanrio Update has just arrived in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, allowing players to use the Sanrio amiibo cards to invite the six Sanrio-inspired villagers to their island, each of which is based on a different Sanrio character or franchise. If you don’t yet have the Sanrio amiibo cards, Nintendo is re-releasing them on March 26th. Scanning each of the Sanrio amiibo cards will also unlock the furnishings seen in each villager’s home, as well as some rather adorable clothing items....

Last year the Animorphs triumphantly returned in a new graphic novel series that pleased not only hardcore fans but kept extremely true to the original books, right down to using much of the same dialogue. Adelle, a software engineer from New York, has created a memorial on Animal Crossing: New Horizons to George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and other victims of police violence. Adelle says she couldn’t attend actual protests since she was living with people considered high-risk if they contracted the coronavirus....

Apex Legends recently launched its Chaos Theory Event, which made a few changes to how the game is played. While the Assassin’s Creed franchise is primarily about historical settings and characters, modern day elements have also been important to the games. So far, Ubisoft has been tight-lipped on how modern day gameplay will be featured in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Origins, but a comment by developer Bruno Guerin may give fans a hint of what to expect. Guerin reportedly spoke to Redditor TDCAUGirl at a Ubisoft event in Brazil. TDCAUGirl asked Guerin about how modern day gameplay would work in Assassin’s Creed Origins, and while he didn’t offer specifics, he teased that fans should pay attention to the loading screens that appear when they de-synchronize in the game....

One question that has plagued Assassin’s Creed Valhalla leading up to its release is how the game will handle its main protagonist, Eivor. The game allows players to swap Eivor’s gender whenever they want, yet both male and female Eivor are considered canon by Valhalla’s Narrative Director. Luckily, any player who wants concrete details about the viking warrior can look forward to a graphic novel collection releasing April 20, 2021 that will reveal Eivor’s backstory....

It seems 2021 is off to a great start–at least, for gaming anyway. A new report from gaming industry analysts NPD Group says that video game sales are up 30% for the first quarter of 2021 compared to the same period last year, rising to a total of $14.92 billion. Growth was experienced across all sectors of the games industry, with hardware leading the charge at 81% growth. That makes sense given the fact there are new consoles out, Nintendo Switch sales remain strong, and there are new video cards available even if people have to pay double or even triple the price for them....
