It’s been a busy week for Activision Blizzard. The gaming giant attempted to stoke some goodwill with the announcement that CEO Bobby Kotick would be taking a pay cut, with his salary going down to $875,000 (a potential 200% bonus is still on the cards). Yet that was quickly overshadowed by the news that Toys for Bob, the developer involved in the the widely acclaimed Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon revival, is being put to work on Call of Duty: Warzone....

Following Microsoft’s recent acquisition of Fallout developer Bethesda Game Studios, many fans wondered if Obsidian—another Microsoft acquisition—could make a sequel to fan-favorite game Fallout: New Vegas. However, one of the best aspects of New Vegas is its strong emphasis in player choice and multiple endings, and declaring one ending canon would put a bit of a damper of Fallout 2 Vegas. There are endless locations for Fallout games that Obsidian could make great, though....

When monsters need slaying, you go and hire a witcher to take care of it. None are more capable of taking on the world’s fiercest monsters than witchers, but it’s also a job description that many characters from other video games could fit right into without a problem. On the other hand, there are also quite a few video game characters that would be a better fit in the Wild Hunt, the main antagonists from The Witcher 3....

Great news, fellow Witches and Wizards, as an open-world Harry Potter RPG appears to be on the horizon. In 2018 Avalanche Studios was rumored to be hard, and quietly, at work on a game based on the popular franchise. Since then there has been no official word on subject, but anonymous sources seem to constantly echo the same main idea, leading to what may be an announcement soon. Recently, Avalanche Studios listed a job posting for a Multiplayer/Network programmer to assist in the creation of their newest project, which is an unnamed open world game....

The next entry in the Persona series is likely a few years away at least, but the wait shouldn’t be as long as it was between Persona 4 and Persona 5. A variety of factors contributed to the many quiet delays of Persona 5, but now the franchise has seen incredible success from both Persona 5 and Persona 4 Golden’s re-release on Steam. For as much as the sales figures means there’s now a vested interest in more Persona titles from new fans, Golden’s sales show that old entries can succeed just as well....

Mediatonic’s Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is notable for its unique premise, blending the battle royale genre with obstacle course game show elements, as well as its user-focused social media presence. Before the game officially releases on August 4, Fall Guys announced a last-minute beta test being held this weekend, and one player has gone the extra mile of using literal jelly beans as a controller while streaming the game. Rudeism, a 29-year-old game designer and Twitch streamer from New Zealand who advertises himself as being able to “turn anything into a controller,” talked about Fall Guys on Twitter July 26 and asked what he should build to play the game....

While many gamers have complained about the use of microtransactions in full retail games for years, the practice finally came under mainstream scrutiny in 2017. Now thanks to the backlash against microtransactions and loot boxes, at least one analyst is predicting that this year will see publishers “pullback” on using microtransactions in games. This is according to analyst Doug Creutz, who is from the investment banking firm Cowen. Creutz pointed to the backlash surrounding games like Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Destiny 2, and how this backlash has potentially harmed the earnings potential for both of those titles....

Outside the open world of Bastion, Anthem players have a few lobbies and areas to explore, namely Fort Tarsis, the Forge, and the Launch Bay. These areas include shops, characters, and more to fill the world of Anthem, but sadly, they are self-contained in the sense that changes can be made there but not on the go. However, there are reports of players glitching into an unused lobby in one of the Striders - essentially the open world launching points - that allows for these changes to be made in the field....

BioWare’s newest IP, Anthem, is currently available in Early Access for players who are Origin Access users on PC, and for Xbox One players who are also part of the EA Access service. With players finally putting the game through its paces, new issues and bugs have started to surface, including the issue of longer than expected loading times. As BioWare showed during the demo phases earlier this month, the studio isn’t sitting back, and is quickly putting together a huge list of updates, changes, and fixes in preparation of the game’s full launch....

The Arenas are now open and accepting all willing Legends that wish to put their skills to the test. The Arenas is Apex Legends’ brand new 3v3 game mode, which is now a permanent part of the game. Whenever you log in, you’ll have the option to go to war in the Arenas, which includes a completely new ruleset, in addition to a bunch of new maps. Since the Arenas is designed for two teams of three, and a far more repetitive, and tactical approach to gameplay, it means your team composition needs to be more focused than in a normal Battle Royale game....

In the free-to-play market, it seems like battle royale games are being announced every week. With games like Hyper Scape topping the Twitch charts, veteran battle royale games are having to take chances on updates they wouldn’t normally do to make sure they stay relevant. Apex Legends is no different in this regard and seems to be taking a chance by adding mobile respawn beacons to all of its game modes....

This Arrested Development review contains spoilers. Some reviews of Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz’s recut of the show’s fourth, Netflix-produced, season have already popped up (you all did not watch it that fast and I am calling your bluff). They all tell roughly the same tale: the fourth season was a disappointment and, while this recut fixes some problems, it’s still hardly a fun time. First off, I want to bitterly reject what I keep seeing, which is critics and fans casually pretending like they always thought Season 4 was not good because I was there, man, and it was a lot more like myself and a handful of other outliers arguing that this thing was a lemon from top to bottom only to be shouted down by everyone else telling us “it gets better” or “watch the whole thing and it’ll magically become funny at the end....

The Assassin’s Creed series has changed a lot over the years, and there are many things that fans miss about the earlier games. One of which is Desmond Miles, who was the present-day protagonist for the first five games in the franchise. He spent most of his time in the Animus reliving the memories of his ancestors. His goal was to gain skills and information that would help the Assassins of his time....

In recent weeks, Ubisoft has been rocked with rampart allegations of sexism across the board, resulting in several high-profile members of the company stepping down. Ubisoft seems dedicated to real change now, but the mistakes of the past are still clear. Every female character of the franchise, from Assassin’s Creed Unity’s Elise and Assassin’s Creed Origins’ Aya/Amunet, has been forced into diminished roles, while the writers of them have been bullied and the women behind them have experienced the sexism first hand....

Not too long ago, Nielsen Media Research put out its annual survey data that assists in determining the most anticipated video games for holiday 2017, with Ubisoft’s forthcoming title Assassin’s Creed Origins taking second place right behind Activision and Sledgehammer Games’ World War II-inspired first-person shooter, Call of Duty: WW2. Now, PlayStation fans awaiting Ubisoft’s next sequel in the company’s long-running action-adventure franchise are likely to get even more excited about the new release, as the game’s full trophy list for the PS4 has been revealed....
