The much-ballyhooed Final Fantasy franchise is one of the longest running and most beloved in gaming. This isn’t to say it’s infallible, that’s for darn certain (there have been some major missteps and fan qualms over the years) but it’s risen to become the very last word in popular RPG action. The original game first released in Japan, way back in December 1987. I wasn’t born until the following summer, so you’ll forgive me for not being knowledgeable enough in Japanese to have hopped on board in utero and been around since the very beginning....

We’ve had a real resurgence of certain game franchises over the years. Whether it’s the recent influx of remakes and remasters of old games or the new iterations of franchises we thought were long since buries, there are just so many games to play! Some of them are fantastic new twists on the old games we love, while others took what everyone enjoyed in the classic games and ruined them with the newest addition....

Pokemon Unite has only been out for a short time, and it has already taken the world by storm. Esports organization Team 33 has officially signed 8-year-old Jospeh Deen to their roster, complete with a signing bonus of $33,000 and a gaming setup worth over $5,000. The young Fortnite player is best known online as 33 Gosu, and while the announcement may come as a surprise to some due to Deen’s age, the recruitment process has been going on for years. “We have secretly been scouting talent for our roster and games over the last few years and are proud to officially sign Joseph,” says Tyler Gallagher, CEO of Regal Assets and one of the founders of Team 33....

After years of work, nearly all the finishing touches have been applied to Star Wars: The Old Republic, and long waiting players will finally get to go hands on with the game come December 20. By Electronic Arts’ own estimation, the game will need 500 thousand players to be profitable, which should be a snap – some analysts believe The Old Republic could sell three million copies in its first year....

Fortnite Season 4 is officially underway and, while the game has crossed over with the Marvel universe before, this is the first time an entire season has been all about the comic book giant’s most beloved heroes and villains, including Wolverine, Dr. Doom, and the mighty Thor himself. And while these various characters are being dropped into a world that’s not their own (one that’s no longer completely flooded as it was in Fortnite Season 3), Epic Games has made some changes to certain parts of the map to further tie in with Marvel; locations that will be more than recognizable to fans of the comics, films, or TV shows....

Games like FIFA, Madden, and any other titles featuring loot boxes could soon carry an 18+ rating in Germany. The debate over what exactly loot boxes are and to what extent they should be present in video games rages on around the world. The latest development in Germany could result in any games featuring the mechanic to carry an 18+ rating by law, reports Der Spiegel. The Bundestag has passed a reform of the country’s Youth Protection Act which includes a request to bring in stricter rules surrounding loot boxes....

Game director Amy Hennig rose to prominence from her work with titles like Jak and Daxter, Legacy of Kain, and Uncharted, but it was during her time Visceral Games where she was attached to the biggest intellectual property of them all: Star Wars. Development had been underway for at least 3 years when Electronic Arts decided to shut down Visceral Games back in October, prompting gamers to speculate that the direction of the Star Wars project headed by Hennig would be in for significant changes....

As one of Nintendo’s heaviest hitters of the year, Animal Crossing: New Horizons was always bound to do well, but no one realized how quickly it would take the world by storm, and it’s undoubtedly one of the reasons that Nintendo is currently seeing a new high on the stock market. In a time when most of us are in lockdown, the game provides a peaceful way to explore the great outdoors and take our mind off of the real world while we indulge in our digital lives....

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is full of ways to customize the game. From terraforming the island to changing up the outfit that your villager wears and even decorating their entire house, this game lets players customize just about everything. And part of that involves using custom codes for clothing, paths, and decor items. There are custom designs for paths, decor items, things to customize furniture with, and even clothing. These can be added into the game by typing the code into the machine in the Able sister’s tailor shop and then used all around the island or as clothing....

Once you get over the opening hump, Animal Crossing: New Horizons starts to feel like a classic Animal Crossing game. There’s no urgency in finishing anything, your goals are entirely self-made, and the game’s charming atmosphere shines through in every interaction with your villagers. The game is the best of the past with some fine new additions. Still, there can definitely be improvements here. Nintendo has done well to introduce new concepts and mechanics on top of what was previously a lackadaisical game, but those additions don’t feel completely thought out....

Animal Crossing: New Horizons‘ 2.0 update is absolutely massive, but one of the most popular additions to the beloved game are the little decorative statues known as Gyroids. Anyone familiar with the previous entries in the Animal Crossing franchise will certainly be familiar with Gyroids, but those who just found this franchise with the release of New Horizons are probably wondering just what a Gyroid is, why people are going crazy for them, and how they can find one for themselves....

While it may no longer be a focus within the gaming community, BioWare continues to work on its process to rework and rerelease Anthem. It has been some time since the last time an update from BioWare was provided, but the Anthem team is back with another update on its progress. Today’s lengthy blog specifically focuses on Anthem’s Javelin classes, their skill trees, unlockable abilities, and general gameplay. For the time being, BioWare’s focusing on design plans, rather than specific details....

Despite a rough start for Anthem, it is clear that developer BioWare has not given up on the game. Plans are already underway for what the developer is calling Anthem 2.0, a major overhaul for the game. Several blog posts from BioWare have outlined changes planned for the overhaul, with the latest talking about Javelins. The blog outlines several changes coming to the Javelins in 2.0, and while exact details are scarce, it does outline how the new skill trees and build systems for the Javelins will work....

For a game fans still know so little about, Anthem has been in the spotlight quite a bit over the last week. It began with rumors hinting at a possible delay, which ultimately caused EA’s stocks to drop before the company could get out ahead of it. EA confirmed the news days later, though management like CFO Blake Jorgensen was clearly frustrated at how the delay was being perceived. Thanks to EA’s quarterly earnings call, fans now have a bit more insight into not only why the game was delayed but how development is shaping up at BioWare....

The Electronic Arts E3 2018 press conference is behind us and the publishing giant has left fans with much to look forward to in the months ahead. While games like Battlefield V and Unravel Two left their mark, EA’s biggest heavy-hitter this year was Anthem, the new action role-playing game from Mass Effect developer BioWare. Despite the studio putting so much on show at the conference, some gamers still had a few questions and Dragon Age executive producer Mark Darrah was happy to answer....

King’s Canyon, the original map of Apex: Legends, returned this year after a long absence. Set on the planet Solace, the map features military bases and slums, and is divided by a river. One of the new features of the map since its return to Apex is a series of bunkers, which have slowly been opening up to players. Recently the fourth, and possibly final, bunker has opened, allowing players a chance to loot it....
