Ever look at a video game world and think, “I’d like to live there”? While many of our favorite video game worlds are full of conflict and trouble—it’s part of what makes them so fun to play—others seem incredibly peaceful, like pleasant utopias to retire to. But one thing is almost universally true: any video game world is probably going to be a whole lot more sinister than it appears on the surface—which is why our knees start to knock as soon as we’re plunked down in overtly sinister places like The Evil Within’s Beacon Hill Hospital....

Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda series debuted on the Famicom in 1986. Throughout 34 years, the Zelda series has grown larger with each generation. Reaching from four hours on the NES to over 100 hours in Breath of the Wild, Nintendo has achieved massive success with an ever-growing franchise. However, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that some titles were too short whereas others overstayed their welcome. Even among some of the greatest games of all time, there were instances where the game length could have been adjusted with a bit more polish....

To try and make these next few months a bit better, PlayStation has launched a Play at Home program. As part of this, ten games have will be gifted to PlayStation users. It started earlier this month, with players able to get a free copy of the 2016 Ratchet & Clank game - which is still available until March 31st. One of the games on offer is Enter the Gungeon, a frenetic bullet hell game that makes you crawl through dungeons while avoiding seemingly endless amounts of enemy projectiles....

With a brand new Black Ops ordeal underway, subtitled Cold War and seemingly returning to the series’ roots, now is the perfect time to look back on the iconic FPS franchise that started at the beginning of the 21st century. There’s a lot of Call of Duty games out there, given the yearly release schedule, and the wealth of unusual ports, such as the DS’ version of Black Ops, as well as various versions of the same game on different consoles....

Unless Atlus has plans to expand the Phantom Thieves’ story any further, the long wait for the next Persona game officially begins next year. With Persona 5 Royal releasing this year to record sales and further perfecting an already fantastic adventure, the popularity of the JRPG giant has never been bigger. Pair that with Persona 4 Golden finally releasing on PC, after being stranded on the PS Vita for years, SEGA and Atlus plan to dive even further into their back catalog of games....

This past week, Games Workshop has been previewing the latest addition to their range of Age of Sigmar models. The upcoming release of the Lumineth Realm-Lords bolsters the Armies of Order with the new Aelven faction previously only available as a special edition launch box. The launch of the Lumineth Realm-Lords may not have gone as planned for GW, with a lackluster uptake on the launch box released earlier this year that is still available, at least in the UK, on several independent online stores and on the shelf in my local game store....

Alex Garland, the British writer/director behind Ex Machina and 2018’s Annihilation, has begun the casting process on his next project. Garland had spoken last year about the script to Empire magazine, calling it “a low-budget horror movie, set in the UK,” but wasn’t sure about its chances for being made. Now, he’s officially signed on with A24 Films in Los Angeles, the production company behind Uncut Gems and On the Rocks, to make the movie....

On the film side of things, Prime Video has a handful of interesting options. The latest effort to make Harry Styles a movie star, My Policeman, premieres on Nov. 4. That will be followed by the Kristen Bell comedy The People We Hate at the Wedding on Nov. 18. The film I’m most excited about, however, is the Mars rover documentary Good Night Oppy on Nov. 23. There aren’t many big library movie titles coming to Prime Video this month....

The the birds are back, and they’re angrier (but also friendlier!) than ever. Angry Birds Casual, the latest title in the Angry Birds gaming franchise, has just soft-launched for iOS devices. Rovio Entertainment, the creators of the Angry Birds games, describe Casual as a back-to-basics game that offers “an easy-to-learn experience that strips away some of the complexity of the more recent entries in the incredibly popular Angry Birds series.”...

Fellow Animal Crossing: New Horizons players, have you been tirelessly collecting fish? Running around your island with a net to try to spot rare bugs? Pulling up fossils to try to find the last wing of that quetzalcoatlus specimen you have almost finished? If so, your efforts may be paying off soon because starting May 18th to May 31st, the game will be running International Museum Day. Working retail is its own special kind of hell, even in the idyllic world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Players have discovered that Nook’s Cranny will change its usual theme to classical music in its last 10 minutes before closing, a technique some stores use to subconsciously compel customers to leave the store. The Nooklings are good kids, and they’ll buy just about anything—weeds, trash, you name it—but not even they like you enough to stay open past closing....

Mirage has been one of the forgotten Legends in Apex since the game was launched. Most experienced players assumed they would have an easy kill against the Legend, who had weak abilities compared to the S tier characters. However, the underutilized Mirage is now one of the best to use in the game. Even better, Mirage is one of the few viable Legends that is actually fun to use. Players that enjoy fast-paced attacking gameplay will fall in love with the character....

We’re not sure what happened, but Lifeline got a shaved head thanks to this weird bug in Apex Legends. We get it. The coronavirus lockdown has gone on so long that some of us have forgotten what it means to be around other people. Many of us don’t even bother putting on pants anymore, and our hair? Forget it. Not only don’t we bother to style it, but we haven’t gotten it cut in months....

Apex Legends Season 2 start date is less than a week away and over the past couple weeks, Respawn has been slowly changing King’s Canyon in preparation for some much larger changes coming when the season starts.
