For better or worse - let’s face it, mostly worse - Days Gone has been in the news a lot this year. The PC version is a hit, and players are enjoying getting stuck into some zomb- freaker horde action. Personally, I lost interest in the game pretty quickly. Although I dug Deacon’s tattoos, I wanted a game with more survival elements. It’s pretty clear Days Gone was going in that direction at one point, as evidenced by all the foraging and hunting gameplay, but it was never implemented in a meaningful way....

Animal Crossing has been a much-loved game franchise over the past 20 years. Five games later and it still has a dedicated following. When the company Build-A-Bear, where customers get to build their own plush toy, announced they were going to do an Animal Crossing line, fans absolutely loved it. The excitement grew each day until the waiting rooms were launched on April 6th 20201. Fans waited patiently in the queue, anticipating getting their hands on their favorite characters....

Interactivity is key when it comes to VR. If you pop me into a space, I expect to be able to interact with each and every object sprawled out before me. If I can’t, the agency in this virtual environment is quickly taken away. All of the best games in the medium do this, with Half-Life: Alyx and Superhot VR being just a couple that make the world you inhabit feel truly tangible....

Update 29/10/21: Jeff Leach’s representation has informed us “Activision and our Client had mutually agreed to sever ties on March 15, 2021 as a result of wholly unrelated matters,” and not because of his remarks captured on film below. Original: Activision has made a statement saying that Jeff Leach, who voiced the character of Ghost in 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will no longer be involved in the series....

Earlier this month it was revealed that Activision submitted a patent for selling microtransactions to players. That patent aims to matchmake players in matches where a purchasable item is most effective, in order to convince the player to spend money on it too. That patent received heavy backlash from fans who accused the video game publisher of trying to ’exploit’ them. The controversy died down somewhat after Activision confirmed that the patent has not been included in any of its games (yet)....

Like the original Hyrule Warriors, Age of Calamity allows players to use the main antagonist as a playable character, though in Calamity Ganon’s case, it takes a little more work to unlock him. After completing the main story and several side missions involving Astor and the Blight Ganons, you will unlock a side mission to defeat Astor, Harbinger Ganon, and Calamity Ganon one after another before finally being able to use him....

Nintendo can’t seem to catch a break in regards to the financial response to its E3 conferences, as the company’s stock value has dropped following its E3 2o19 Direct, thanks in no small part to the delay of Animal Crossing: New Horizons for the Nintendo Switch. With a little over a week until the launch of the Anthem VIP demo, potential fans are anxiously anticipating their first chance to go hands-on with the game. Apex Legends has only been out for a little over two weeks, but the Respawn team is already hard at work to bring us new in-game content. From potential new modes, to new skins and characters, Apex Legends should be able to keep gamers satisfied for a while. A loophole in UK retailer Argos’s online ordering system meant scalpers gained access to PS5 stock before the consoles went on general sale. Alongside a new and substantial update, Ark: Survival Evolved will soon be getting new servers on Xbox One, allowing more players to access the game’s multiplayer. Dinosaur survival game Ark: Survival Evolved is due to get over a hundred additional servers on the Xbox One, allowing players to access the game’s highly-populated multiplayer. At the moment, the popular title has several hundred active servers but nearly all of those are full, meaning that there’s a dire need for additional space....

The 2014 finalists for the Canadian Videogame Awards were announced this week titles spanning 17 categories. The winners will be announced at the annual on November 21, 2014 at the Carlu in the heart of downtown Toronto. This if the first time the Canadian event is taking place in Toronto, since it traditionally takes place in Vancouver. With the move, the 2014 Canadian Videogame Awards will actually include the winners for games releasing in 2013 and 2014....

Welcome to the summer slump, which means all the fans are beside themselves waiting until their favorite TV shows return to the small screen in the fall. The Arrowverse (which is the snappy name for the CW superhero show line up of The Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Vixen and Constantine) is definitely no exception. All the shows left on some pretty dramatic notes and it will be ridiculously difficult to wait until October to see how they are resolved....
