The day is finally here and Assassin’s Creed: Origins has released worldwide, taking fans of the series back to ancient Egypt and the beginning of the centuries-long conflict between the Brotherhood of Assassins and the Templar Order. The new protagonist Balek can be equipped the very best gear money can buy in ancient times, but being able to afford it is another matter. With that in mind, we’ve put together a handy guide that should have players rolling in Drachma in as short a time period as possible....

One new concept introduced in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is the idea of runes for weapons and armor. They can be added to slots within these pieces and they act as perks and provide a special boost to Eivor, such as providing a boost to elite damage. Some of the best runes are just for weapons, and some are just for armor, but they all help when in the middle of a fight....

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s file size clocks in at a respectable 50GB on Xbox, meaning you won’t need to free up too much space on your hard drive in order to install the highly-anticipated title. The info comes from an update to the game’s Microsoft Store page, listing its “approximate size” as 50.01GB. Considering games have only become larger with time, it’s impressive Ubisoft was able to restrict Valhalla’s file size to a fairly reasonable number....

You can’t really have a good game without a good villain. And Nintendo had quite a few fun villains in their video games. From iconic ones like Bowser to slightly more obscure ones like Gigyas, Nintendo villains have made their mark on the gaming world. My favorite Nintendo villain is Ganondorf, though that’s mostly because Legend of Zelda is my favorite game series. But this guy is both intriguing and menacing....

Super Mario is probably the greatest game franchise of all time, but its premise is actually pretty basic, and the plot is basically exactly the same in pretty much every game: Bowser steals Peach (and maybe also attempts to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom or whatever other generically nefarious thing you want), Mario goes on adventure to rescue her, Mario rescues her and there’s some G-rated “awww” kind of romantic moment. There have been a few exceptions, but they are notable for being so, and life reverts to the above status quo, it seems, at the end of each game....

The Biblical epic keeps appearing as if it’s on the cusp of a resurrection. At the beginning of the last decade, we saw big movie star vehicles based on Old Testament tales in Noah and Exodus: Gods and Kings, and when those didn’t pan out, we still got Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara trying to bring an indie sensibility to Mary Magdalene. Religion can also make for contentious filmmaking: too earnest and the movie feels sanctimonious and dull, too irreverent and you risk making “a holocaust movie that has the power to destroy souls eternally,” as a nun once told Martin Scorsese about his 1988 film, The Last Temptation of Christ....

Nintendo is a company of many successful franchises and countless classic games. Such success does not come easy. It may seem like the company has had many more hits than misses over the year, but that’s because they will not hesitate to cancel a game that they feel is not up to their standards. For every Super Mario Bros., there’s half a dozen projects that either went unfinished, or was completely abandoned before it ever made it out of the gate because it did not meet Nintendo’s expectations....

Capcom was recently the victim of a major ransomware cyberattack that saw a slew of its upcoming video game projects leaked online. If the leak is to be believed, Capcom’s upcoming game projects include plans to localize the Great Ace Attorney games, which were released for the Nintendo 3DS years ago but never saw release outside of Japan. Apparently, Great Ace Attorney will get localized releases for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 at some point in 2021, though official plans have not been announced at the time of this writing....

Those that have used social media in any capacity this week likely have seen the new “old” filter in FaceApp that ages (almost) any picture to show what that person would look like much older. FaceApp is by no means a new app but its popularity has likely skyrocketed thanks to the proliferation of these “old face” filter photos. However, those mobile users who want to get in on the FaceApp old age filter fun should be careful, as using the app comes with a big catch....

For those who find the modern era a little too distressing, AMC is taking a nostalgic look back at last century’s economy. For one day only, on the company’s 100 year anniversary, AMC will be offering movie tickets for 15 cents apiece; the same price charged for their first ever ticket sales. The offer will coincide with AMC opening several theaters across the country, but not all of them. The decision to open will be made on a case by case basis, with specific opening dates for each theater available on AMC’s website....

Although it can be easy to forget, Among Us is both cheap (or free) and available on mobile - and rated E in both Google and Apple’s app stores. Combined with its popularity, this means that a lot of children are playing the game, potentially in public lobbies....
